BA Communication grad with a love of English and teaching

I am a recent graduate from Ashford University with a BA in Communication and a minor in Psychology. My final GPA was 3.87. I do not see myself as a tutor but as a coach helping students reach their full potential. Improving a student's skills is a collective project. I do not lecture. Results happen when there is effective communication. Tell me what you are looking to achieve and we can both sit down and create a step by step game plan. A game plan helps students get a sense of their acco... Read more

Helping to make math easy

I truly enjoy seeing those I teach "get it" and have that "ah ha" moment. A structural engineer by trade, I have to continually learn new things each and every day. It's my job! Math is my specialty of course, but I don't fit the mold as a typical engineer as I enjoy interacting with people too. Tutoring experience? Well...besides the hours on wyzant tutoring mostly algebra and trigonometry I have previously volunteered to teach at engineering outreach events at the Buffalo Museum of Sci... Read more

Experienced, Patient and Loving Teacher/Tutor

As an experienced teacher of 22 years, I have worked extensively with children with ADD/ADHD. In general, I find these children to be quite intelligent and able to learn as long as the learning environment is suitable. In the classroom they should sit near the front of the instructional area and should be gently guided to maintain attention. I also find that allowing them to stand or move during instruction can be helpful as long as its not distracting to those around them. Tactile activities also improves concentration and attention such as drawing and/or using manipulatives. Read more
