My love of teaching comes from a lifelong of learning both in and out of the classroom. I delight in helping students to realize their potential and improve their performance on tests. I help students release negative mindsets, attitudes and beliefs that may be blocking their ability to study, and replace these with training that develops both left and right brains. I specialize in tutoring reading, writing and math for success in school and on exams. My goal in each session is to provide ta... Read more

ESL/ESOL, ASL, General Education 15+ years' experience
With more than 15 years experience in the educational realms, I am able to help students and parents address educational assistance needs. I do not tutor nor teach to a set pattern. If the student struggles or the parent desires a different approach, I readily adjust my style and options within the tutoring environment. In previous tutoring and teaching environments I have utilized sidewalk chalk to fabric scraps to "Hot Wheel" cars to work on the alphabet and phonics. I have utilized rea... Read more

Mr. Reading for Enjoyment (and puzzles too)
I work with students of all ages one-on-one with a variety of approaches and strategies. I like to put together simple research papers, narratives, poems, songs, and fantasy stories. It is even more fun when we illustrate what we are writing about. An engaging story, read aloud, goes a long way toward bringing up school work performance. Getting a hold of two copies of a book--say, Hunger Games, for example, is not very difficult. For the beginning reader, Patricia Pollcka has written and ... Read more

TTT (Teacher Turned Tutor)
To do anything well, we have to practice. If you want to be a better writer, you have to write. You have to check it. You have to rewrite your piece. Students think if they do it once, that ought to be enough. For some, I can give a starting point. For others, I have to teach the process…few thank you letters are written these days, but to learn how to write a friendly letter is still a skill taught in school. Writing is learned. It doesn't come "naturally" to many people, but I believe with practice, students can be taught to strengthen their writing abilities and skills. Read more
