autism

I have worked with Autistic and other special needs students for about 5 years, and I really enjoy helping to make a positive difference in the lives of these wonderful students. My youngest niece is Autistic, so our entire family is very understanding and supportive. Also, we have wonderful resources in the Birmingham area for Autistic individuals. Please contact me for additional information. I'm always glad to help! Here is a quote from a parent of one of my special needs students: "Paul very quickly picked up on how best to tutor him, what his strengths and weaknesses are, and how best to help him improve. My son has enjoyed every minute working with him, and we are both amazed at the degree of progress he has made. Paul has gone out of his way to customize his work to especially meet my son's needs. I can't imagine finding a better tutor for my son."

Aspergers

During my years of teaching in the public school systems, I did a lot of work with special needs students, and gifted students. In addition to my experience, there is one very important factor that makes all the difference: I love working with these precious children! Here is a review from Dr. Becky Senicz, who is the parent of one of my autistic students: "Paul has been an excellent tutor for my son, who has Asperger's Syndrome. Paul very quickly picked up on how best to tutor him, what his strengths and weaknesses are, and how best to help him improve. My son has enjoyed every minute working with him, and we are both amazed at the degree of progress he has made. Paul has gone out of his way to customize his work to especially meet my son's needs. I can't imagine finding a better tutor for my son."

ADD/ADHD

If you, or someone you love, suffers with A.D.D. (or A.D.H.D), please read this! For many years, I have been studying A.D.D. and brain function, and how diet, exercise, medication, and lifestyle habits can help the learning and memory processes. I have read dozens of books on these subjects, and continue to keep up with the latest research, by reading articles, subscribing to newsletters, and communicating with doctors and specialists in Brain Health. Even though I have A.D.D. myself, I made excellent grades in school. I graduated at the top of my high school class, and graduated college with high honors. My A.C.T. score was in the top 1% in the nation. I have several family members (two of my own children, and one of my parents) who have A.D.D. or A.D.H.D. As a result of all this experience with A.D.D./A.D.H.D., I know some things that help a lot with the symptoms, and unique challenges, faced by a person with A.D.D. I can share what I have learned with you, and also share some of the resources and helpful secrets that can make a positive difference in your life. It helps to have every advantage... why not give yourself that gift? Please email me and let's talk soon!

Several years ago, I started working more and more with special needs students, and I really loved it. In a short time, the students I worked with began to show more motivation and more desire to learn. My mom worked with many special needs students during her teaching career, and it seems that I inherited from her a natural talent and love for working with special needs students. For example, one little boy who would never speak for anyone but his parents started talking when I was working with him. Other students also showed better-than-expected progress in my classroom, and I found it to be very rewarding. I'd love to help you--or your son or daughter--to succeed in school, and in life. Natalie C. from Birmingham, AL

Paul is a wonderful tutor. He helped me with an online statistics course and without his help I would have done poorly in the class. He really wants to see students succeed. He is also very patient and kind and will explain anything to you if you just ask him. He also has a very flexible schedule and will help students through email or phone if you are unable to meet up. I highly recommend him!!

Tiffany P. from Sterrett, AL

I am lacking in the most basic areas of math skills, but when I meet with Paul he doesn't speak condescendingly or get frustrated by my lack of knowledge. He is quick to respond to communication and makes what could be a daunting lesson something that we take one step at a time. I am very excited about the future lessons and what we will accomplish!

Tonya D. from Bessemer, AL

My son needed help for his ACT test. He has a short attention span, and needed someone who could keep his attention. He loves the way Paul keeps his attention, and felt he could learn a lot from his tutoring sessions. Paul is very patient, and will work to find a time that is convenient for his students. I will continue to use his services for more subjects for my son. If you're looking for a tutor for your child/children, I would strongly suggest Paul for the job. He is a great communicator, and seems to love helping others.

Kitty B. from Birmingham, AL

First session was excellent! I am now understanding and comprehending the purpose & process of the quantitative analysis problems for which I acquired Paul's services and continuing to work on managerial accounting. Paul is very patient person with a passion for seeing people truly understand and learn. Very willing to share any knowledge freely. I highly recommend Paul!!!

Paul P. from Pelham, AL

Paul is tutoring me in Business Statistics and has made it make sense to me. I learned more with him in 30 minutes than I have in 4 hours of actual class time.

Madison J. from Duluth, GA

Went out of his way to help me. Very easy to understand and explains things well. Great at communicating. Overall, a very good man who cares about those he is helping.

Paul has been a blessing for my daughter. Not only because of his great knowledge but also because to his ability to teach, tailoring his sessions to the particular need of his student. He has been amazing at boosting my daughter's confidence, showing always genuine interest on her progress. I would recommend Paul to anyone. Specially for those students that need to improve math and sciences. He has been excellent at all times.

Mr. Paul is a very precious and a great teacher to have. He teaches my child with great patience and my child loves and look forward for his lessons every week. His teaching is very helpful and he customizes the study according to child's areas of interest. He is extremely flexible and this is the best service I have ever had. I would strongly recommend Mr. Paul to my friends without any doubt. Happy Parent

Tracy P. from Pelham, AL

Paul was easy to work with, prices were reasonable, he made some great suggestions. My daughter had taken a course thru ZAPS and was not able to pull her score. With his help, she made a great increase and now has a Full Scholarship with Auburn. Thanks Paul!

Samantha M. from Pensacola, FL

I never thought I would find someone as patient and as concerned for my education as I am. Paul is honest and willing to work with me in any way to help me do my very best. No matter how long it takes or how many times he has to meet me he always makes sure that I get the absolute most out of our sessions and will not part until he feels that I understand the material. Great tutor. Would recommend to anyone needing educational assistance in a high school subject, college subject or even with taxes.

James L S. from Birmingham, AL

Before we started working with Paul, My son always said he "just WASN'T GOOD AT TESTS." He was failing two classes, and barely passing his other classes. My son had been giving up without really trying, because he felt hopeless. Paul helped my son develop confidence, and improve his study habits. Within a few weeks, his grades started improving. He is no longer afraid of tests. Paul suggested that he might need to take some natural supplements, and he suggested that we see a nutritionist too. We took both of those suggestions, and we have noticed that he's ability to concentrate has improved a lot. I think Paul missed his calling: he should have been a guidance counselor!!! My son has a B-average, and even got an A! It is wonderful to see the report card with NO D's or F's. We have much to be thankful for. It is obvious that Paul cares about helping his students, first and foremost. We can't thank him enough.

DONNETTA W. from Birmingham, AL

In the short time that I've been working with Paul, I've learned a lot about preparing myself for a standardized exam. I am am horrible at standardized testing, but Paul has worked with me on some things I should do in my personal life to improve my chances of getting a higher score. He has also believed in me and my abilities to be excellent. He is empowering, motivating, and a great leader. Thanks!

Becky S. from Birmingham, AL

Paul is an awesome tutor! And that is a direct quote from our daughter. My husband and I also think Paul is awesome. Our daughter has struggled with math forever and she is now making A's. Paul works with all of our schedules and is willing to do anything to help us make the grade. We can't thank him enough for helping us bring up her grade point average. He is truly AWESOME! Thanks!

Melissa H. from Birmingham, AL

My daughter (a senior in a private school) excels in math. Recently, however, she was disappointed with her math score from her SAT test. We sought out Paul's instruction for a boost before retaking the test. The skills that he has taught her will no doubt be of great value for her upcoming exam. His teaching methods are effective. Instead of pushing his agenda on my daughter he would first watch her work a problem then help her identify ways of improving her strategies. He was able to help her identify her weak points while being careful not to waste time practicing skills that she already knows. Most importantly, he was quick to point out her strong points before making suggestions for improvement, which is critical in building confidence within the student. Additionally, at no point did my daughter ever feel as if Paul was not knowledgeable enough to help her improve her score. I've read reviews on other profiles that suggest the tutor teaches gimmicks. Not Paul! After each lesson with Paul, my daughter would come home stating that she had no doubt Paul could achieve a perfect score on the SAT or ACT math section of the test. This is most likely because Paul is on the cutting edge of SAT knowledge. When we met with him, he was keenly aware of the differences between the old test and the new and was quick to help my daughter design a strategy around conquering the newest test. Being a teacher myself, it is my motto that it doesn't matter how much knowledge a person possesses if he or she is not able to relay that information to a student in a comprehensible and relatable manner. Paul teaches at the student's level. My daughter felt more like he was coach than a tutor - one who continually urged her to do her very best. He is an upbeat tutor who arrives at each lesson with a new idea, book, calculator or CD that he feels will help the student excel. For those concerned about his availability, we found his schedule is quite flexible. I would highly recommend Paul as your future tutor for either yourself or for your child.

Steven S. from Birmingham, AL

I was very pleased with the help Paul gave my son. He first helped my son review math for the ACT test which my son was taking for the second time. My son improved his ACT score and needed help in his regular classes so Paul also helped him write a paper and math homework for the rest of his senior year. Paul always responded to calls and emails and was usually able to work Steven in even when I called at the last minute. I highly recommend Paul. He is very reliable, patient and knowledgeable on a variety of subjects.

Doran G. from Helena, AL

Paul C. is a dedicated educator. His detailed lesson reviews (Each Lesson!) leaves you with an overwhelming sense of accomplishment and value. One hour with Paul is like getting 90 additional minutes. Thank you Paul!

LaTonya T. from Calera, AL

We are very pleased with the tutoring that our daughter receives. Last year she received the Most Improved Award in Math. We are so grateful to have such a wonderful tutor and we look forward to a great year this year.

Alka S. from Birmingham, AL

I was looking for someone who can make my son get interested in studying during summer vacation. Paul is the one. He and his wife came out to be a dedicated teachers. I can see that they love teaching and making it fun also. I highly recommend him.

Alison G. from Birmingham, AL

My son wanted to get a jump start before he started a 3 week intensive statistics class this summer at college. On his first 2 tests he made a 97 and a 95! (he has another week to go!) Paul did an excellent job getting him prepared and math is not my son's best subject.

Shelia D. from Birmingham, AL

Paul helped me get organized and was very helpful with my studies. He also helped me with my calculator questions. Thanks Paul!

Christopher S. from Chelsea, AL

I was tutored by Paul C for Precalculus Algebra. I'm an honor student at my college, but was very worried about my Math courses. After making a B the previous semester in a lower level math course I hired Paul C to help me in Precalculus Algebra. Paul C was very patient and showed me step by step how to solve Math problems that I previously couldn't comprehend. I really liked the fact that Paul C found out where I was in the subject and built me up to where I needed to be. Paul C built up my skills in Math through his tutoring and I made an A in the class. I would recommend Paul C to anyone who needs a tutor in his area of expertise. Paul C will help you prepare for success and your grades will improve under his tutelage. Thanks Paul C.

Nonna T. from Bessemer, AL

Paul helped me understand math, and he explained it using examples from my everyday hobbies and interests. That showed me how useful math is, and how it can help me every day if I understand it better. Then he helped me with some math concepts that I never could understand for years! Wow--I can't believe that I'm saying this, but I am actually good at math now!!!! And I even like it. Thanks Paul, and Thanks, WyzAnt!
