ADD/ADHD

ADHD is a common behavioral disorder that affects school-age children. Kids with ADHD act without thinking, are hyperactive, and have trouble focusing. They may understand what's expected of them but have trouble following through because they can't sit still, pay attention, or attend to details. ADHD symptoms are present over a longer period of time and occur in different settings. They impair a child's ability to function socially, academically, and at home. My background and experience with ADHD includes the following; school counselor and academic advisor role - helping students with ADHD manage his or her behavior, provide academic interventions to meet the needs of students who may have difficulties staying on task, understanding new concepts or developing appropriate social skills. In my graduate studies, I studied school counseling and mental health counseling. I have training in special education and served as a interim special education teacher for one year. Received training in the area of academic interventions and assessments for students with disabilities through my recent graduate program in School Psychology.
