autism
I have worked as a teacher and tutor with students with mild to severe autism as well as Asperger's and PDD-NOS. I helped the Special Education teacher at my last school to tutor 17 year old twins in reading and tutored them in their home several days a week. I have a dual Master's in Early Childhood Education and Brain Based Learning which gives me an ability to understand how each learner processes information according to their own unique learning style.
ADD/ADHD
I hold a Bachelor's degree in Child Psychology and a Master degree in Brain Based Learning and ECE. I have spent many years as a mainstreaming teacher working with children to prepare them for success in a regular classroom environment. This has included children with deficit disorders such as ADD/ADHD and PDD/NOS, Aspergers, mental and emotional challenges and physical limitations such as CP. I recognize that such children have limitations caused by the reactions of the disorder on their ability to pay attention and focus on the materials and classroom environment, some of these children have attention spans of only seconds. I work with students and families to gradually increase their ability to tune in to their learning environment and make lifelong changes in their learning abilities. I would be pleased to email you information and assessment tools that can help to determine what your student needs before our first meeting.

Aspergers
During my years of mainstreaming students, I had several Aspergers students in my class and have also tutored twins with Aspergers. This particular form of autism brings its own unique challenges due to the fact most Aspergers people are unaware of the impact (possibly negative) that their lack of understanding verbal and facial cues can have on the other people they encounter. Patience and a thick skin are often needed. In working with such students I have used a combination of techniques to cue them in to social interaction techniques such as role playing, mirror talking and viewing videos of people conversing with each other.

Cindy doesn't push but waits till my son comes around. As a special needs child this is important. Never a raised or negative voice. Always very encouraging.

Cindy has been tutoring my kindergarten student for several months. He loves her. He is improving in all areas; reading, sight words, sounding out words, numbers, counting etc. She is very competent and knowledgeable. I would absolutely recommend her.

Cindy hasn't just helped my son academically but also has helped him build a high self esteem. For the longest time he'd say "mom I'm stupid I can't do this" now he'll tell Cindy or my self "just sit there and watch, I can do this by my self. It's easy!" He has ADHD and Cindy is always very patient with him. His grades have gone up tremendously. Best decision and investment I've ever done!! I'm very thankful to have found Cindy. She's a keeper...we don't plan on letting her go anytime soon.

It was our first meeting with Cindy to discuss my daughter's needs. She was knowledgeable and gave us some useful educational sites and tips.

Cindy was prepared to make an assessment on where my sons current development is at. It was obvious that Cindy has a wealth of experience in working with young Children. I especially appreciated the positive feedback he received during the session. Even after the session, Cindy said that my son let her go in his backpack, which I thought was awesome. He is already wanting to go back, and showing an interest in reading now.

Cindy is working with my father who is handicapped from a stroke. She customizes her time with my father to include things he is motivated by. She is also able to tailor the lesson so that it's appropriate for an adult, but still basic enough for his learning level!

Cindy teaches with great patience, she tries to make sure Student is understanding on what they read, My daughter is showing signs of improvement in just 3 sessions and Cindy explains on what she taught after each session which is very helpful and she gives exercises online as well as exercise sheets sometimes. Our goal was to get through I-Ready and AZMERIT and she is getting exercises similar to that pattern.

My son has been tutored by Cindy for a few months now. He was struggling in school and we were looking to get past those obstacles and keep moving forward with good learning strategies. Each session has been a positive experience for him and myself. Cindy is kind, patient, and has developed a great connection with my son. My son's grades have improved immensely and he seems to really respond to her approach. As a parent, I have also learned strategies to build on. We are pleased with Cindy and plan to continue with her.
