My son (a HS junior) has always been "highly achieving" in math and has been in gifted programs since the third grade. During his second semester of Calculus, we noticed he was starting to struggle a bit, not scoring as well on quizzes, tests and homework grades. In doing an internet search for tutors, we found Wayne at WyzAnt Tutoring. I sent an email to Wayne on a Friday afternoon and within an hour he had contacted me via email, then phone and we had sessions set up to begin the following Monday. My son was NOT on board about having a tutor and told us he was just "lazy" and that's why his grade was falling off. Wayne has been working with my son for 5 weeks now, his grade has improved, he feels more confident about the calculus concepts and his problem solving skills. Wayne helped my son with his Algebra 3-4 homework. He understood the subject matter and was able to explain it clearly. Wayne identified one of my son's weaknesses, that he is able to do the math in his head but doesn't show his work. He worked with my son over Christmas break in order to ensure he understood all of the math concepts for the class he was taking. After a 10+ year break from college (and 17 years after my last college algebra class), I went back and needed to take calculus. Due to the length of time since my last class, I needed to pass a placement test to enroll in it. I worked with Wayne from May to January, reviewing elementary algebra, intermediate algebra, college algebra and trigonometry, to refresh my very rusty skills. Wayne had textbooks to loan for every level (helpful as I was not taking the classes over). He also can help with using a graphing calculator if you use one. My experience was so much different than it was as a high school and college student first time around. I really felt like I understood what I was learning. Happily, my placement test score was more than adequate! I'm taking calculus now, and I intend to call on Wayne if I need help during the semester!

Mr. L. went through all of the chapters in my review book I needed help in and patiently explained to me the various concepts. While teaching he wrote down important points (which helped me study later), and he went through the sample problems with me. Sometimes he would also provide context to the problems we were doing, showing me where the Physics I was learning was seen in the world. Overall, Mr. L.'s teaching allowed me to take the AP Physics test with confidence and earn a great score on the SAT II Physics test. Physics B is scary because of the breadth of it---from mechanics to buoyancy to relativity to electricity and magnetism. With Wayne L.'s help, I was able to grasp all of the concepts. Most amazing of all, this was all done in a few months!

Unfortunately, she missed the month of March due to a severe break to her foot and was bedridden and homebound which forced her to completely miss the whole month of March. She did everything that she could complete during April, May and June which was highly intense due to her schedule of classes. Wayne made sure that she understood the material and more. It was the most impressive teaching that I have seen during my twenty years of evaluating highly qualified educators. We will utilize Wayne next year while she takes honors physics due to his ability to explain and show students how to understand and develop a truly valuable teaching experience.
