Algebra Doesn't Have to Be a Bummer
I've taught math, particularly algebra and geometry, for over a decade, working at all grade levels but with particular attention to middle schoolers. Martin worked with my son for about 8 weekly lessons for SAT prep and writing tutoring for college essays. My son loved working with him because he is enthusiastic, friendly, funny and realistic (in my son's own words). My son's subject test scores were excellent, and his math and English SAT scores improved a lot: by over 100 points! The writing portion, which is the most subjective to score, still was challenging. But we are very happy with his finished college essays. Martin's approach to teaching is engaging, not intimidating. Often he was working alongside my son, rather than just reviewing and correcting. They worked their way through an entire SAT manual in the time they had together. Martin taught principles which could be applied to many potential SAT questions, and would clearly analyze and explain tricky problems. He also gave homework that my son would complete between lessons, which we liked. I highly recommend Martin as a tutor.
