Learn from the best

Hi, My name is James, but all my students call me Jim. I know how painful it is to fail and the deep and the abiding satisfaction that comes with academic success. My students never fail. My students always succeed because I know how learning really works and I can teach you. I can teach you how to succeed quickly, permanently, and in every academic subject. I don't care what your past performance has been and I don't care what anyone else has told you. I know you can succeed. Furthe...

ADD/ADHD

ADD/ADHD is a disorder whose etiology and treatment, despite numerous claims of expertise,is not well understood and only nebulously defined. It is generally diagnosed and treated by a psychiatrist by the administration of drugs with various brand names. Despite the variety of names for these drugs, they are basically all the same. They are amphetamine. Amphetamine is a dopamine and epinephrine reuptake inhibitor. Its long term effects are, at this time, unknown. What is known is this. These drugs, prescribed to children, are exactly the same drugs that would land an adult who possessed them without a prescription, in prison. Common sense would dictate that caution be exercised. Since the drugs are considered to be harmful enough to society to attach a felony conviction to their unauthorized possession, what is the nature of the harm they are proposed to alleviate? Drug treatment for ADHD is primarily a treatment of convenience for parents and teachers, and only secondarily as a benefit to the student. Consequently, if the student's academic performance can be improved, the drug administration might be lessened or eliminated. As a child I suffered from this disorder long before there was a name for it. I do not wish that experience on anyone. Consequently, I will tutor any student so diagnosed at a reduced rate, as it is the approach to study rather than the subjects themselves that need to be addressed, and the parents, should they be satisfied, may pay me whatever bonus they may feel is fair. I am available to discuss this with any concerned parent and am comfortable doing so online via Skype or Yahoo IM.

I'm writing this review for my son. He is a junior in high school and has an IEP. In addition to needing much help and support for comprehension and processing issues, he struggles socially and has anxiety. Well, Jim was not only able to help him tackle the very difficult college prep biology course, but he also instilled a great deal of self-confidence boost and encouragement. My son grew to be quite comfortable and relaxed with Jim. They are both quirky guys in different ways and it worked for them! If you have a child that is "out of the box" so to speak, learning is challenging on many levels. I think its important to find someone that can connect with your kid and be open to trying a few sessions to see how they work together. I'm very grateful that we met Jim and he is a good man that my son came to depend on and looked forward to helping him go from failing quizzes/tests to getting a B on his final exam!

We have just started with James, but early indications are very good. My son has some learning difficulties in the current school environment so we have a ways to go. We will have a more detailed review after a few weeks. Update: Dax seems to be enjoying his tutoring and applying himself more diligently to his biology study and projects. We recommend Jim for any student that is having trouble keeping up with a class.

Jim did a great job of helping our son learn how to learn. It refocused him on his study skills and gave him a new sense of understanding about why he should do what he needs to do to be an independent learner. Jim is supportive and positive.

James has been a blessing to our daughter. He has rebuilt her confidence in her abilities while retraining her on how to study. He provides a foundation that will aide our daughter for life long success in learning and retaining information. Thank you so much James.

Jim has helped me do well in school with his research in Psychology and mastery of study skills. I randomly called this tutor on Wyzant, and he has been a great help for me.
