Seasoned, Adaptable, Nurturing, and Holistic Tutor
I am a graduate of George Williams College and have taught 7th graders for several years. Aspergers
I served as an elementary school counselor wherein I was a standing member of various schools' IEP's team from 1997 until 2010. Often my intervention strategies were written into IEP's for school-based intervention. My personal contributions included counseling students and families in a basic understanding of the syndrome while offering specific intervention strategies for school and family use. I provided school staff and parental support for those students identified as being diagnosed with Aspergers syndrome. I was especially successful in integrating students with Aspergers into an on-going school-based support group (students from grades 3-6) that taught acceptance of all and modeled social-emotive skills.
ADD/ADHD
Began in-depth, specialized study to assist the increasing number of students referred by parents and teachers exhibiting ADD/ADHD symptoms while working as a full-time elementary school counselor since 1997. In 2006, I was trained and certified in the Nutured Heart Approach, created by Howard Glasser. I have used this interpersonal and relationship-building approach throughout my work with K-6 students, individually and in small groups. I have also provided parent education in the NHA model. NHA is now used world wide since its inception in 2000. Additionally, I have counseled families and taught the strategies of NHA to children and family members as a way to honor and challenge a child's intensity, helping each child build inner wealth and move into each person's greatness.
