This year, I am a senior in high school and I recently went through the college application process. For those who have gone through this process, you probably understand the pressure and competition involved, especially for colleges in California. At school, I was constantly pressed for time due to my homework schedule. Unfortunately, this made it very difficult to put aside the necessary time for college applications and essays. By the start of November, I was in a panic - I was still deciding on a major, and I was unsure of what direction to head in as far as the essays. I knew I needed to seek outside help. A year and a half ago, I chose to return to college and finish my Bachelor's degree. I had been away from school for many years. Therefore, I knew I was extremely rusty in the fields of writing, grammar, essay composition, and so on. I'm also dyslexic. Before meeting Phoebe, I struggled tremendously writing essays and doing reading comprehension passages in the Graduate Record Exam (GRE). I used to take almost 3 hours to finish writing one essay. I hesitate to wax poetic about Phoebe, however, because when you find someone amazing it's best to keep quiet otherwise she'll get too busy and won't have time for you!! After assessing her needs, Phoebe began helping her to build the necessary knowledge base in music theory while assisting her with proper form, technique and skill. Phoebe set weekly achievable goals and assigned appropriate exercises to make the challenging class material more accessible for my daughter. Slowly but surely, she began to improve. By the end of the school year, she was playing with significantly more skill, confidence and enjoyment. Phoebe’s passion for music and teaching really shines through in her lessons.
