Patient with Innovative Techniques for Reading and Writing Skills

I am presently an undergraduate student pursuing a master's in professional counseling and have attained a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. I enjoy working with students that may have challenges in reading and writing skills and am extremely patient. Also, I have 15 years of experience working with the disabled population and finding practical ways that students can learn basic concepts such as phonics, basic math, and writing....

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

autism

I have an Associate Degree in Child Development and a Bachelors of Science in Psychology and have worked with at least six autistic clients of various ages in the past fifteen years. First, every student is an individual and I look for positive incentives (and avoid food rewards for health purposes) to help each child learn. I use the TEACCH strategies such as visual aids, discrete trial, and the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS). For higher functioning students I will use drama or role playing, labeling items and vocabulary development activities, and retelling of experiences or stories for recall and organizing information, as well as task sets for all types of concepts (numbers, alphabet, money identification, and safety signs/words).
