Paola

Italian, bilingual, patient teacher.

Having an Italian father and an American mother I had to grow up bilingual. Half of the family only spoke Italian and the other half English. I grew up in Italy so I know the language and the culture and the differences between living in Italy and in the US. Subtle differences such as when you're offered something saying "yes, thank you" as opposed to "yes, please". I know first hand the challenges, and benefits, of handling 2 different languages, and as I teach Italian to my adoptive niece...

It's nice working with Paola. I have two girls ages 3 and 5 whose attention span is not great. She is patient and always encouraging. In fact, she has come up with a new strategy to tutor each for 30 minutes. This way they each get one-on-one time. Great idea!

Paola was raised in Italy and peppered our conversation with cultural information that I really enjoyed. She arrived with a printed lesson that we worked on together. She helped with pronunciation and then we reviewed the homework I had done for my full immersion Italian class (I am a complete beginner and our teacher only speaks in Italian!) I feel more hopeful after meeting with Paola.
