Janice
Mandarin and Computer Software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) Tutor
Hello, my future students: I’m a Chinese/American, born in Shanghai, China. I’m a graduate of the Shanghai University there. I worked for the Shanghai East Publishing, Inc., for 10 years as an administrative assistant. Beside my main work responsibilities, I also tutored students between the ages of 5 to 12 years old to learn Chinese. Some of my students did well enough to enter the key middle schools after they graduated from primary school. After I immigrated to the USA, I studied at co...

Janice is an amazing tutor. She is patient, kind and makes sure that my children pronounce their pin yin properly. We couldn't be happier with her.

As a student of Janice N, I highly recommend her as a Mandarin teacher and as an educator in general. I am a student at the University of California, San Diego with a job opportunity in the upcoming summer that will require me to move to Shanghai. Though I have the option of taking Mandarin classes through my university, I have decided instead to continue lessons with Janice, because I believe that she has and will continue to give me the best tools and methods for successfully learning such a difficult language. I have been meeting with Janice for Mandarin lessons for almost 6 months now and I am happy to say thanks to her dedication, patience, and variety of teaching strategies, I have seen great improvement in my ability to speak, read, understand, and pronounce Mandarin. One of Janice’s greatest strengths as a teacher is her ability to make students feel comfortable. I have a great deal of experience learning languages and I can attest to the fact that one of the greatest stumbling blocks myself and other students often face is a fear of making mistakes or sounding foolish. But Janice creates an environment in which I feel no anxiety about making attempts because I know Janice will correct me in a way that is constructive. Further, Janice has always been incredibly flexible in her teaching methods, employing a variety of techniques until we find the one that is most beneficial to me. I believe that this adaptability as an educator is what sets Janice apart; she will be able to find a method that speaks to each individual student, always giving him or her the attention they deserve. Throughout my time with Janice, I have constantly felt that she goes beyond what is required as a Mandarin tutor. I feel that she has taken a vested interest in me as a student and a person, and have no doubts that she will do the same for all of her future students.
