Credentialed Teacher Skilled in K-6 Ed., English, & Computer Apps.

Hi! I am an experienced and credentialed teacher in the state of California, with a background in computer information systems. In 2012, I published four books, which I am very excited about! For many years I worked in the insurance industry, before pursuing my teaching credential. My love of teaching comes from a lifelong love of learning. As a master's graduate, I know that hard work and dedication to learning can pay off. As a Title 1 teacher, and Corporate Trainer, I have had the pl...

nutrition

I have taken several health and nutrition courses in college, and studied the topic voraciously on my own. I am able to teach people what kinds of foods they should eat for a regular diet, for a weight loss diet, for a weight gain diet, and for special diets. I am currently in the process of creating a cookbook highlighting the importance of following certain nutritional guidelines and how to get children to eat what they need to be healthy.

ADD/ADHD

In order to obtain my teaching credential in California, I was required to take a course about working with children with learning and developmental disabilities, including ADD/ADHD, Aspergers, and Autism. I grew up with a brother who had ADD/ADHD, and was able to observe the changes he went through with his disability as he matured. My oldest child has high-functioning Autism, and was once diagnosed with Aspergers and Pervasive Development Disorder. My experience as a teacher in the public school system (grades K-12) has exposed me to children with varying levels of these disabilities, and has allowed me to work with these children with autonomy so that I was able to determine what worked best for each of these children. Most of the time, I was able to help them learn how to focus their attention when necessary, how to set up hand signal cues with me so I would know that they needed a break from academics when necessary, how to apply study skills at home, and help them adjust to a public school environment. I also worked with students that had IEPs and 504 plans.

During my time as a Title 1 Teacher with Simi Valley Unified School District, I worked specifically with students who were struggling with Reading and Comprehension (this included helping them with the different spellings of words in the English language). This may have been due to learning disabilities or the fact that a student was a non-English speaker. As a Title 1 Teacher, I used research-based methods to help me reach all students at varying levels. For most of my students, this helped them improve their reading and comprehension, which they were able to carry over into other subjects and improve their grades overall.

I am so happy with Leanne. She is always prepared with new materials for me to review. She is very patient and able to identify my weak areas that I need to focus on. I highly recommend her as a tutor.

I love reading the details that Leanne provides after spending each hour with my granddaughter. I feel hopeful Leanne will make a big difference in her academic deficiencies and grow to gain confidence in herself. Thank you Leanne.

I needed help with nowhere to turn. I previously worked on closed computer networks for many years, so I thought that using a home computer would be easy. I had bought a new computer, had internet availability, and one problem after another in trying to become an at home user. My family was frustrated and unable to help me. I was gripped by computer anxiety, so the computer stayed in its case. Computer classes would either be too basic or too advanced without focus on my issues. So a tutor seemed a possible solution. Leanne was what I needed. She is professional, extremely knowledgeable, and patient. My basic questions were addressed in the first session. Some ongoing beginning user annoyances were explained in understandable terms instead of Help "computereese". Time was allowed for note taking for later reference. We were able to cover over ten issues with success in one session. I have worked with the public all of my working life and am incredibly impressed with Leanne and her communication skills, all wrapped up in one kind, friendly person. I would highly recommend her for students of all ages. She is a pleasure.

Leanne has provided my son not only the math lessons he was requesting but has given him the encouragement that he can learn and complete the test in which he is preparing for. She has taken the time outside of their tutoring sessions to prepare and bring to the next session additional review material for him. She has been very patient and adapted her tutoring style to meet his needs. He is finally feeling confident in his math skills and its from her commitment and listening as well as understanding what skills my son was lacking in to ensure their time together was valuable and with purpose. He looks forward to their session every week and said she is the perfect tutor! Highly recommend- 5 stars

Leanne helped me practice delivering a speech I have to make in front of my class. I haven't done this before, and was very nervous. Leanne taught me how to properly deliver a speech, and helped keep me from getting too nervous. She was really great!

From the first moment we met Leanne we felt comfortable in abilities to really make a difference in our child's studies. Leanne took the time to understand our son's weaknesses and what he needed help with most as well as offer some advice on how she plans on improving them. Every lesson since that has been a great experience and Leanna writes detailed noted of the session and how its working. We could not be happier to have found her!

I needed help with a sewing project for my senior project. She lived in my city, knew what she was doing and was definitely able to help with my issue! She was very flexible with scheduling. It was just what I needed! She even gave me some fabric I could use for one of the garments!

Leanne assisted me in various aspects of PowerPoint and Photoshopping for an event. She was willing to go to whatever lengths she had to in order to accomplish the work at hand. She helped me with fancy features to make the presentation very professional. When I discovered an additional photo which needed Photoshopping at the last minute, she delayed dinner to help me with it quickly so we could meet the printer's deadline. She is very pleasant to work with and her customer service is superb.

Leanne is an excellent teacher and very professional. She is detailed oriented, patient, kind, and very likable. She is extremely knowledgeable about children with special needs including ADD/ADHD, and the resources available to us within LAUSD. She is teaching my daughter study skills and organizational techniques which will last her throughout her academic years. Each week I receive a progress report detailing the session which really helps us to maintain consistency throughout the week and helps to facilitate my daughter's progress. Leanne is not a homework helper and is far more than a tutor. If you are looking for someone to help your child learn the skills needed to be a good student, such as techniques to study independently, make the most of classroom time, stay organized, and set goals for progress, Leanne is an excellent choice and I highly recommend her.
