I have a BSEE (Electronics Engineering), 1967, from U.C. Berkeley and a BA, cum laude, 2010, in Music from San Jose State University. I presently have 12 piano students whom I teach privately. I'm an experienced substitute teacher in the Cupertino and Campbell School districts, where I teach K-8. I can teach nearly all subjects. My daughter has been taking piano lessons with Mr. Benjamin since early last year, she has made tremendous progresses. Being also a sub teacher in Cupertino School District, Mr. Benjamin knows well how to deal with young children. My daughter connected with him immediately after the first lesson. Mr. Benjamin does his lesson plans carefully to suit individual student. He is very patient yet firm with children. Mr. Benjamin not only teaches student the techniques, but also spend great effort in showing them how to read notes. Most importantly, he inspires kids to love music! I am extremely fortunate to have come across Benjamin. We got his help for my son who was taking an AP Music Theory course and was struggling on the ear training part of the class. With just over a month of help, my son's ear training test grades went from a low of 52% to 100%, moving his grade up 5% to earn an A. This would not have been possible without Benjamin's great help. He always comes on time, is extremely flexible, and stays as long as needed until you are comfortable with the material. Ben is an amazing tutor who is very patient and knows his stuff. I desperately needed a tutor for a music theory class. Safe to say I was a deer in the headlights in the beginning of the semester. With Ben's help I went from an F to an A! He shows up to all appointments early or on time and has a flexible schedule. He is very nice guy who shows up prepared and will even bring in printouts he thinks will help you out. This is my first time I've ever used a tutor on this site and I'm pleased to say I found a great tutor.

I had a college music theory class to test out of, which means that I had to learn about 10 weeks of material during the 2-3 weeks of break I had between quarters. Benjamin D taught me the material step by step, in a way that first gave me a solid foundation of knowledge, and then built up my understanding of the theory. The tutoring was clear and efficient, and I felt very confident about testing out. I ended up passing and now I'm part of the music department.
