I start most students off with a series of 60 progressive melodic exercises that I have composed; these help the students learn proactively how to play in tune by focusing their attention on how they are using their fingers, wrists, and arms. I send students mp3 files of these pieces so that they can listen to the files for assistance with pitch and rhythm, and they can even play along with the files.
