I hold a Special Education credential in the state of California. I have extensive classroom experience in elementary through secondary special education, teaching learning disabled, autistic, and SED (severely emotionally disturbed) students in Los Angeles Unified School District. ADD/ADHD and dyslexia are the most common issues among special education students. I am also credentialed in English, and have been effective at motivating different-learners to read, write, and think. It is key to assess a student's current reading level (or pre-reading level) and help him/her experience regular success while in the process of advancing his/her reading level. I use TPR (Total Physical Response), games and multi-media are useful approaches. I offer interest-tailored reading material is key for ALL growing readers. It's important to rejoin learning and joy for the student who may have been discouraged or utterly turned-off to the idea of learning. A patient, joyous tutor can be precisely what is needed to rekindle a love of learning for the different-learner
