Hello, my name is Michelle, and I am a patient teacher who has been tutoring students of all ages since 2013. I have tutored many students that have been identified with special needs including autism spectrum disorder, ADHD/ADD, anxiety, OCD,, and dyslexia. Prior to tutoring, I taught high school science for five years and middle school math and science for two years. I have a PhD in biology, a multiple subject teaching credential for elementary education, a biotechnology certificate, and a ...
ADD/ADHD
I am qualified to tutor students who have ADD/ADHD based on both my education and experience. I hold a valid multiple subject teaching credential. One class dealt specifically with teaching students with special needs, including those who have ADD or ADHD. Also, as a teacher I taught many students with ADD/ADHD and adapted my lesson plans to fit the needs of all students. Finally, I have tutored several students who have been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. When tutoring, I utilize strategies that help students with attention deficit disorder become successful in the classroom.

Michelle has been working with Alexa for about three months now, and I'm already seeing so much improvement in her reading fluency. Both have been working hard at getting her up to par.

Michelle personalizes the session based on the needs of the student. She is patient and explains things well. Our child has gone from a low D to a high C, almost a B- in just 6- 8 sessions. She is very professional.

Michelle seems to zero in on the method a student is using to help identify which step or area they need assistance with. She's very patient, shows students different ways to approach math problems that might work best with their style. After only a few sessions, my son has already stated how much she has helped him to better understand approach math - Algebra I & II, fractions, etc.

Michelle is a wonderful tutor. In such a short amount of time, she was able to find out the stumbling blocks my son was having with math, and by the end of the lesson, the frustration he had turned into smiles because he understood. It was amazing! She also worked with him on an English writing assignment. He was so frustrated that he didn't want to do the assignment. Michelle brainstormed with him on ideas, and then she showed him how to put his thoughts on paper. It was amazing his whole attitude toward writing the paper changed it went from frustration to excitement. As a parent, I can't tell you how happy I was I wanted to give her a big hug. She's really a wonderful tutor!

I am an adult who recently tried to pass the CBEST test after only reviewing the material by myself. I did not pass the math section, partly because they do not allow calculators to be used and I don't remember how to do math longhand. I also realized that my overall math skills have not been used in over 40 years and are very rusty. At our first appointment, Michelle was able to help me find a starting point for my studies. At the second appointment, Michelle helped me understand some areas of weakness that I need to work on. She is very skilled at pointing me in the right direction for my own individual study and practice, and makes our sessions most productive. I highly recommend Michelle as a tutor. She is very easy to work with, stays on track, understands the concepts and explains them clearly. Update: Now that I have finished 10 sessions I am even MORE impressed with Michelle's skills! Meeting at the library was helpful because she was able to direct me to some math books and specific CBEST preparation books that helped me practice my new knowledge without having to spend more money on books. Every week we covered the material specifically needed for this test, so there was NO wasted time. Questions that seemed "silly" to me, because I couldn't figure out the answer myself, she quickly and professionally resolved and helped me feel more confident. I am now ready to go and retake this test with much more knowledge and confidence! I can do Basic Math, Algebra, and some Basic Geometry all without the aid of a calculator. Word Problems?? No Problem!! I do highly recommend Michelle for anyone of any age who needs some extra help to unravel the mysteries of math. I passed with double my previous score!!! My confidence level has increased significantly. I am most pleased.

Michelle has been a blessing to my 7th grade daughter who went from failing her Math class to getting a high B! She picked up on my daughter's learning style, and has tailored sessions to meet her where she is. My daughter has a better understanding of the math concepts through Michelle's work with her, and is enjoying Math again. Michelle is patient, understanding, and insightful to underlying issues that might be interfering with her studies. She has gone above and beyond the tutoring, and has shown my daughter that she cares beyond just being a tutor. Michelle is awesome!
