Winn graduated from UCLA with a Chemistry-Materials Science B.S. with a minor in Science Education and with a Chemistry Ph.D. (Inorganic Concentration) at UC Riverside. At UCLA, he taught K-12 science, and at UCR he has taught class sizes of 20-250.
