I have several years experience teaching algebra at the high school level and have also had the pleasure of working as a tutor in the mathematics tutoring lab at CSULA. Since I have also worked as a researcher and developer in corporate America, I can easily share the relevance of algebra in the technical workplace. Yes, I have used high school algebra in my research. I have a B.A. in mathematics plus 90 graduate units and a B.A. in chemistry.

James persists until student understands basic groundwork. Many tutors listen to cries for help with homework and skip recognition that what student actually needs is to strengthen earlier foundations. James' focus is always on his understanding of where the student needs to be directed for his future welfare.

I observed nearby while cleaning my kitchen. The chemistry tutoring session was based on my daughter's graded test with 60% correct. James coached my daughter on how to approach her upcoming re-test. What key words would tell her which of two equations (ideal or general gas law) she should use to solve the answer. He made sure she knew the concepts and what pitfalls to avoid before he left. This took an extra 30 minutes. I had asked him ahead of time if he could stay beyond 60 minutes if she needed it. James knows his subject inside and out and his enthusiasm shows.

James has been working patiently with our student twice a week for the past few weeks. The results are beginning to show in class.

My son, who was retaking Pre-Calculus, had 25 tutoring sessions with James E., and then received an A grade. Key areas of feedback for James E. include: 1) Extremely knowledgeable about subject matter 2) Well prepared for sessions and provided copies of his notes for post-session review 3) Identified weak areas and focused sessions to strengthen understanding 4) Attuned to the psychology of the student - devoted tutor 5) Regularly provided productive post-session feedback on strengths and weaknesses Retaking Pre-Calculus and then receiving an A grade speaks for itself in terms of results. Just as important, the confidence and problem-solving skills improvement that came with James E.'s tutoring of our son allows us to give our highest recommendation for his services.

Mr. E is experienced, and is capable of tutoring diverse subjects. He is good at explaining concepts, and is able to draw connections and comparisons between different subjects, which adds to the depth of the learning experience. He's a great tutor, probably one of the best in the SF Bay Area.

James helped me with vectors, parametric representation, zero vector, unit vector, etc. James came very prepared with two additional books on linear algebra. He was very clear, precise, and knowledge. He spoke at a nice pace and walked step by step with me when explaining. He never jumped into anything without an explanation. He was wonderful!

James knows how to communicate and will help you with whatever is most challenging, and in my case it was C++. Although it was only my first lesson with James, I can tell that I am going to ask him for help in the near future.

James helped me with a tough class assignment. When we ran out of time during our tutoring session, he followed up via email with the last of the information that I needed to complete my work. I really appreciated his follow up.
