Jesse

Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations Tutor

I hail from the University of Southern California, where I double majored in Mathematics and Physics. With my background, I have completed the hours Wyzant has logged for me in subjects such as Calculus, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Physics, and Chemistry. My tutoring experience also includes my employment as a Level III Tutor at East Los Angeles College (from 2008-2015) with the same subjects. In addition, I have also worked as a Mathematics Supplemental Instructor, where I prepar...

chemistry

My experience tutoring this course includes work as a tutor at East Los Angeles College. In fact, I tutored a good number of students taking Introductory Chemistry and General Chemistry courses through WyzAnt and is one of the popular subjects on WyzAnt. Finally, my background in this course is a rigorous General Chemistry course taken at Harvard University.

physics

My experience tutoring Physics dates back to 2008. I have worked with both high school and college students taking Physics (with subjects ranging from Mechanics, Electricity and Magnetism, all the way up to Modern Physics). Out of all the subjects I tutor, Physics is the most cumulative because it requires a mastery of mathematics in order to understand why Physics works. In some cases, the mathematics makes more sense than what intuition would tell you (ahem...ahem...Quantum Mechanics).

algebra 1

My experience with Algebra 1 includes work with middle school students, high school students, and college students. I tutored middle school students through a tutoring program funded by NCLB. Moreover, I have experience as a Teacher’s Assistant at a high school, worked as a tutor for a high school, know the curriculum, and know how Algebra 1 is taught in the classroom. I have also tutored this course at the college level and know the curriculum at the college level.

algebra 2

My experience with Algebra 2 is similar to Algebra 1. My experience with Algebra 2 includes work with middle school students, high school students, and college students. I tutored middle school students through a tutoring program funded by NCLB. Moreover, I have experience as a Teacher’s Assistant at a high school, worked as a tutor for a high school, know the curriculum, and know how Algebra 2 is taught in the classroom. I have also tutored this course at the college level and know the curriculum at the college level.

geometry

prealgebra

My experience with Prealgebra is through tutoring high school students and college students. I have tutored Elementary children and was one of the most enjoyable moments was getting children to understand what multiplication is and what division is. I also tutored people who were returning to school after years of not attending school.

precalculus

My experience tutoring this course comes from tutoring the course at the college level. Moreover, I have worked at a high school as a tutor, worked as a Teacher’s Assistant for this course, know the curriculum, and know how it is taught in the classroom. I also know the curriculum at the college level. I like to tutor students for this course at the start of the term because there is plenty of material to review for the next course.

trigonometry

Trigonometry is one of my favorite courses to tutor (more than Calculus and saying I like Calculus is an understatement). The reason is because this is one of the fewest courses where students could start solving a problem, differently than the way I would start a problem, and still end up with the correct answer. In fact, I usually show my students short cuts for memorizing some of the trigonometric identities. Finally, my experience with this course is both high school students and college students.

Ahmad L. from San Diego, CA

Jesse is an excellent math teacher. He prepared me for all my midterm exams, and I aced all of them! Thank you Jesse!

Alec F. from Los Angeles, CA

Jesse is a great tutor who went out of his way to come to USC and tutor me. He summarized concepts I was struggling with in my Linear Algebra course in an eloquent way. In fact, he was able to make the esoteric more concrete and expanded my intuition for Vector Spaces and Matrix representations for functions and vectors. In short, Jesse was concise and told me what I needed to know about Diagonalization and Eigenvalues.

Gilbert W. from Monterey Park, CA

Jess is very dedicated in helping students in need of guidance. Tries his best being there for his students and taking their needs over his own convenience.

Cynthia P. from Alhambra, CA

I would highly recommend Jesse for anyone struggling with their math class. He tutored me in my Calculus II course that I am taking at Pasadena City College and I wish I had met up with him earlier in the semester, as I know I would have understood everything better from the beginning. Jesse is beyond patient and willing to explain every concept that I didn't understand in many different ways until I could finally understand. I know I am not the most easy person to work with, especially when I am dealing with frustration and stress over not understanding a concept, but Jesse never pushed back and only sought to help me in the best way possible. He was easy to schedule time with around my hectic schedule and made himself available when I needed him right before my tests or my final. If I have to take anymore math classes, I will definitely know who to go to! I definitely saw a marked improvement in my scores once I started working with Jesse. Thank you!!

Natasha N. from Whittier, CA

Derivatives, implicit differentiation, related rates, ln(x) this, and exponentials that... the mystifying, esoteric realm of calculus led me to seek Jesse's help. And, let me tell ya, I am glad I did! I currently have an A in calculus because of his unparalleled ability to articulate this complex math to the lay person. He has furthered my understanding of these concepts in a humble, fun way. It is without hesitation that I recommend Jesse.

Rob S. from Burbank, CA

Tutored with Jesse for a calculus 3 test and he knew everything off the top of his head. Super mellow and nice which makes for a comfortable learning environment.

Katie L. from Altadena, CA

I understood all of his explanations and he covered the pre-calculus concepts in-depth. Not only can I solve the problems, but I also understand how all the concepts connect together.

Martin R. from Los Angeles, CA

My daughter is much more confident in AP Calculus and AP Physics - She has worked hard and has earned a B grade in 1st semester for both AP's.

Jay T. from Glendale, CA

Jesse is a genius! He knows his stuff! Cleared up all my questions about series and sequences as well as polar coordinates and conic problems.
