French, History, Reading and Comprehension skills

I have always enjoyed teaching and am comfortable with students of all ages, from young pre-schoolers through those at the university level. I look at teaching as sharing information with another person and helping him to develop the skills he needs to explore, enjoy and succeed in the world. Does that mean learning facts and figures? Yes, it does. But it also means finding out what excites that student, what he is interested in, and then, helping to bridge the gap between what he knows a...

I was a theater major, performing my first professional role at 17. Later I studied with the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts and received a certificate from UCLA in Motion Picture and TV Producing. I have performed leading roles in productions of Shakespeare, contemporary plays and musicals in everything from small black box theaters to outdoor venues with 5,000 people in the audience. Besides performing, I have also worked professionally in costume departments, art departments, rigged lights and worked the light board.

We have just started to use Danelle for our 10th grader in AP Euro. It's been a can of worms. As you start digging in, you realize that struggling in school or a subject has many implications beyond just reading a chapter again or doing practice problems. You have inexperienced junior tutors that only know how to just throw work at the problem. In contrast you have someone experienced like Danelle who attacks the problem from many angles. I can't declare victory this early in the process, but I am happy and hopeful now that we are doing something about it. Danelle is multi-dimensional, smart, engaging, and cerebral. I look forward to where this journey is going.

My 15 year-old daughter is struggling with French at her high school and I found Danelle through Wyzant. It was clear to me by other reviews that she would be helpful to us. Danelle answered our inquiry quickly and arranged to meet with us within a few days of the initial contact. She is American but speaks absolutely fluent, impeccable French. How do I know this? Because I myself speak advanced-level French (I lived there). It is a benefit that she is able to quickly identify the mistakes and pitfalls we, as Americans, make in speaking French. My daughter's experience was so positive, and Danelle was able to quickly identify areas that need to be addressed. She was patient and kind and fun to be with. She takes her work very seriously and arrived on time and was ready to help. We are excited to have Danelle in our lives, helping our daughter gain confidence and joy in learning this language. Do not hesitate to contact her! Lovely person.

I was recently hired as a flight attendant, and will need to speak French for my position on a regular basis. I am working with Danelle to review my French skills acquired during school, as well as learn new terminology and conversational components. Danelle understands the technical aspects of language very well, and her pronunciation and accent are perfect! Since she is American, she is able understand where I am having trouble with pronunciation and sentence structure; this really helps because her explanations are clear and logical.

My son has had French tutors occasionally in the past and always left the lesson more confused than before he started. With Danelle, my son told me immediately upon her leaving (we booked a two hour session) that she helped him immensely! Had we known Danelle earlier, we would have had her all year long. We are looking forward to our next lesson and hope to have her for the next school year when he takes French V. On a personal level, her personality is fabulous! I am thrilled we found her! I recommend her highly!!

It was the week before finals, and an AP European History test that was worth 15% of my final grade was less than days away. Having been taught over 650 years of history, my mind happen to forget a thing or two. Danelle was so quick and eager to respond. Having informed me of her past of not only living, but taking the course, in FRANCE, I couldn't have gone wrong! She didn't teach me from notes or past quizzes; all I had to give her was a packet of dates and she lead my mind to, somehow, connect all events from Columbus 1492 to today's economic struggles. Having a tutor that lived in Europe, who understood the mindset of a struggling teenager, and who was so funny about it was perfect! The best part was that, also being experienced in English and other courses, she was able to tie in some ideas that would be useful for future classes and the AP exam. I had asked for her services on a Tuesday, and by Wednesday she was at my house ready to teach me what my teacher had been doing for two semesters. Overall a wonderful tutor, an experienced historian, an awesome woman. She will definitely be called next year for help with AP US History!

Danelle has been working with my granddaughter for a couple of months and has been a tremendous help to her. I would describe her tutoring method as very integrated and she brings many subjects together, making things like math and reading come to life! She's extremely patient and kind in her teaching style, which is so important for children. Their sessions together have been very productive and my granddaughter looks forward to working with Danelle.

Richard H. from Studio City, CA

She really knows how to get you to learn quickly. I did not even realize how much I have learned so far until she had me speaking to her in French simulating different situations such as going to a restaurant.

Michelle H. from Santa Clarita, CA

Danelle worked with our daughter in preparation for a school monologue. Danelle immediately identified our daughter's strengths, weaknesses, and energy and tailored the lesson accordingly. Danelle has such a versatile background and provided advice in related areas such as acting, singing and other performing arts. She has an incredibly broad knowledge base! Furthermore, Danelle and our daughter instantly developed a bond and provided a learning environment with the perfect balance of discipline and fun. I would highly recommend enlisting her services. Danelle has so much wisdom to share!

Victoria D. from Los Angeles, CA

Danelle has been such a great tutor with my 17 year old in french. She is patient and makes the learning fun. She is upbeat, on time, responsible and efficient. I highly recommend her!

Anita T. from North Hollywood, CA

Danelle is not a tutor - she is a brilliant and creative Educator. She is working with my teenage son, who has rendered every previous tutor powerless to unlocking his potential. Danelle already has taught him how to minimize the distractions that habitually get in the way of his completing his work in a timely fashion. More important, the transformation in his attitude and willingness to work on his study skills is simply profound. He is less defensive and more proactive in managing his work load. Danelle is tough but gentle, serious but with a great sense of humor, and direct and focused but patient, never harsh. Her commitment to my son's success is such that she has created a strategy that requires ongoing follow up with each of my son's teachers - way beyond the scope of a tutor but a method designed to ensure success. My son is working harder than ever and, under Danelle, is seeing the fruits of his labor. I am so pleased with Danelle and recommend her with the highest degree of confidence.

I am happy I met Danelle yesterday at local Starbucks in Burbank. We had a nice lesson-conversation, which is what I really needed. She is a great tutor, great person, and she encouraged me so much. After our meeting I was feeling relaxed and more confident. If I need help in future, I will definitely contact her again.

Barbara R. from Woodland Hills, CA

As an ESL teacher, fluent in Spanish, and a lover of languages and etymology, I found Danelle a teacher who not only could refresh my French language skills, but also explain the reason behind French grammar and vocabulary. I like to dig into languages, but that's just me so I know Danelle can teach on the level in which I want to learn. She's also very patient and did a thorough analysis, through conversation, to determine the level at which I should review my French skills.

Ftoon B. from Los Angeles, CA

I applied for the TOEFL exam, so I needed a tutor to prepare for my exam. Today I took a lesson with Danelle H, for two hours, I understood what is the TOEFL about after she explained it to me. She was quite good, she taught me grammar, oral, and the written parts, how it's going to be in the TOEFL exam. She made me feel good about my English and that I'm going to do well in the exam, and I feel relaxed when she teaches me. I'm looking forward to take another lesson with her.

Lilly K. from Burbank, CA

Danelle teaches my middle school daughter French. She is very patient but appropriately firm. My daughter has tried other programs which included one on one tutoring but she has progressed much faster with Danelle. I also like much of what she is learning is really practical. We would wholeheartedly recommend her!

Fred G. from Van Nuys, CA

I'm so grateful for having met with Danelle. She is extremely brilliant and extremely down- to earth! Although I met with her just once at a local Starbucks, I'm now convinced that she is a treasure of a resource for those looking for tutoring. She is a true diamond!

Joe K. from New York, NY

I've danced around the French language for many years now and Danelle had a fresh, direct approach to teaching that I really connected with. Very highly recommended.

Quentin B. from Los Angeles, CA

I have only met with Danelle a handful of times and already I really feel my skills are improving. Her system of teaching is very simple to grasp and makes pronunciation and memorization easy and rhythmic. Her passion for French culture and story telling and her over all sense of humor also make learning with her a pleasure!

Rosa M. from Panorama City, CA

I was working on improving essay writing skills for CBEST test. On the first meeting, Ms. Danelle reviewed my sample descriptive essay. While I was working with her, she suggested me to write with more vivid words so that my audience can connect with my writing. When we worked on another essay, she provided me an examples of more descriptive sentences. I finally felt the "Ah ha moment" after I completed the first tutor session with her. Ms. Danelle is an excellent teacher who was not only able to identify her student's strength and weakness on the first meeting, but also provided a lesson according to her student's weakness. I will definitely recommend Ms. Danelle to other students.
