Reading Tutor with background in Speech and Language and ESL

I had a master's degree in Speech Pathology and worked for over 25 years in the public schools. I also worked with adult stroke patients and brain-injured adults. I worked most recently as a clinical supervisor at CU Boulder in the early literacy program. I had a Colorado teaching license, which has since expired. I...

ADD/ADHD

I have worked with ADD/ADHD students K-12 in the public schools. Some of these students have been on medication, others not. I can help with creating optimal study environments and helping to organize materials so that the student can locate/turn in assignments in a timely manner. I can also teach test preparation skills that are useful for day-to-day quiz and test taking. I use mnemonics and graphic organizers to maximize recall of important facts/data.

Christine really knows her craft! She is my wife's ESL tutor, and I am impressed with how quickly her English skills have improved. She is helping my wife with reading, grammar challenges, and vocabulary, and she is already feeling more confident. We are really happy and we recommended her to everyone. Christine is so patient and always treats us with respect and encouragement.

Christine is very professional, patient, knowledgeable and punctual. She is strict but friendly. She is always well prepared for each session and willing to help on school work. After each session, she gives very informative lesson summary. My daughter loves her!

Chris is the best tutor you could ever ask for. She is highly skilled and professional. She brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and tools to work with our learning disabled son. She also brings a perfect blend of crisp and businesslike with a clear love of her work and appreciation for our child which causes our son to not only enjoy her company, but to respect her and work hard with her. (Tearing up as I write this). She is a godsend. You will not find many tutors with her qualifications and experience. Any family who can have the help of Chris is lucky indeed.

Cristine tutors my son 2 times a week, helping him with his homework, especially with reading, writing and comprehension part. She is very professional, knowledgeable and patient, which is exactly what he needs! We are seeing a great progress not only with Language Arts skills, but with his ability to focus and finish tasks on time. Her reports are very detailed and informative, they let us know how he is doing and where he still needs improvement. Most importantly is that our son loves working with Christine!

Christine has done an excellent job providing tutoring services to my two children ages 5 and 7. Each child has very different needs and areas of focus; she was able to easily meet each of their individual needs. With her background in speech therapy, she is able to help my emerging reader build the skills necessary to enter kindergarten while simultaneously supporting her articulation delay. Additionally, she was able to focus in on my son's areas of challenges in reading quickly, supporting his needs to build confidence and academic skills. She is creative, flexible and skilled. We have recommended her to friends.

Christine has a lot of experience and she has been really good for my son. She is very patient and provides many good tips with phonics, reading, and writing. We are fortunate to have found such a wonderful tutor!

Christine spends 1 hour at our home twice a week. She teaches my son as they work together to complete homework. My son does the work, but she asks the right questions and points things out to him, so he's always learning and improving. They work mostly on reading comprehension and writing. My son likes Christine very much and says their lessons are "excellent." Christine is very professional, but it's clear to my son that she cares about his progress. They get his work done in about 1/2 the time it takes my son and me when we work together, and learns more. A high school or college student could surely tutor my son for much less money, but Christine brings a tremendous amount of skill and experience to her tutoring. The quality of her tutoring is well worth her fee. Highly recommended.

Christine S. tutored my son over the summer. She was excellent - very punctual and thoroughly prepared for each lesson. She was also very encouraging and patient with my son. I would highly recommend her if you are searching for a tutor capable of exceeding your expectations.

Chris works well with my two energetic and sometimes poorly focused sons who are in 6th grade. After a day of school, she has methods for keeping them engaged with her for a tutoring session after school. She contacts their teachers and works with their teachers to provide extra help where the boys need it. She is working on reading and reading comprehension. She is excellent and very easy to work with also. Highly recommended!

Christine has been tutoring our 8 year old daughter for 2 months, and we have seen a very steady improvement on her reading. Christine is patient, resourceful, and plays games to make it interesting. She is reliable, flexible and pleasant to work with. She is also very helpful in communicating with the school teacher, and she makes sure they are both on the same learning page. We look forward to more tutoring.

Marci D. from Louisville, CO

Our 7 year old daughter has been working with Christine for over a year. She was struggling with reading and often said, "I hate reading." Christine came to our house weekly and worked diligently to identify the problem areas. She was always on time, organized and passionate about helping our daughter. She chose activities and strategies that were creative and designed to engage her. Alexa never complained about tutoring and often asked, "Is Christine coming today?" Christine quickly built amazing rapport with Alexa, which is half the battle. She always wrote an extensive summary of the work she did with her. She kept in close contact with her teacher and shared all of the work she was doing. She is a gifted tutor and a kind and caring woman. She is passionate and committed to helping children learn to love reading.

English was not my first language, and pronunciation has been a constant struggle for me. Christine has unique and useful methods to help me pronounce correct tones and correct them. She is very patient and gives me plenty of time to practice. She is very friendly and approachable, so there is no pressure in learning with her.
