I chose Joe as a tutor solely because of his location; he was the only tutor within a reasonable distance from me. He was also very accommodating to a schedule and location where we could meet up. He came prepared by re-reading some older chemistry books he had lying around. I'm not sure whether that helped him or perhaps he is just an inherently bright individual, but concepts were picked up quickly by him and conveyed to me in a way I could understand them as well. Overall, he was a great tutor and didn't get frustrated or show any impatience throughout the two hour tutor session. Joe truly is an outstanding tutor. He brings so many qualities to help his students. First and foremost is his excellent knowledge of the subject matter. He helped me out with basic Calculus, and it was clear that he had a vast knowledge of fundamental Calculus plus far beyond. He understood the concepts thoroughly and was able to pass on the knowledge of how to compute even very complex problems. Second, he has a great teaching style and is able to communicate concepts to students in a way they can understand. In each session, I would present to him things I had questions about, and he always addressed the questions thoroughly at a pace that was right for me. He creates illustrations that he uses during the tutoring, so the student can see visuals of what they are studying. This helped me a lot to comprehend the examples not just in terms of formulas, but in terms of graphs as well. Third, Joe has a great manner with people. He is a very personable guy, and he puts you at ease. He is extremely bright and at the same time, he is down to earth. He relates to people in an easy-going way. He sets a tone for the session that makes it easy to learn and keeps you engaged in learning. Joe is passionate about Calculus, and that passion is contagious!
