ADD/ADHD
I am a Colorado certified Special Education Generalist/Specialist ( MA ). I also have ADHD and have spent hours studying the body of evidence for ADD/ADHD. Through thorough investigation of this topic I have been able to harness my disability, using it as a strength as opposed to a disability. This intense research along with my MA in SPED has given me the ability to teach others with ADD/ADHD how to cope with and organize school work as well as work on appropriate social skills. I believe in educating the whole child. In other words my objective is more than rote learning, it is about making connections to the real world. I include appropriate character development with real world connections with every lesson. Overall, I am trained to differentiate any lesson through scaffolding techniques, as well as rigorous assessment, making sure to present appropriate and leveled instruction.

Nancy brought some great new tools and ideas to her tutoring sessions with my seven year old son. And she did a great job keeping him engaged and tailoring her sessions to his individual needs.

My son was diagnosed with ADHD years ago, and has struggled through school his entire life. Between testing, homework, and everyday classroom activities, my son's confidence and self-esteem was extremely low. Nancy has been one of the best motivators I have ever seen work with him. She is very quick at bringing a child's strengths out, and has the unique ability to instill the confidence in my son that we have been struggling for years to find. We have tried multiple tutors throughout my son's schooling, and Nancy is by far the best we have found. A great tutor not only teaches a child to learn, but also the unique ability to identify the child's strengths, and find ways to teach the child how to apply them. I would highly recommend Nancy to tutor your child, no matter the extreme. With what she did in a few short months for my son, I am confident she can help any child.

Nancy is a fabulous tutor. She grasped very early the best approach for my reluctant reader and never lost patience. Reading used to be a battle with my child, then tutoring with Miss Nancy became the highlight of my child's week. Nancy's enthusiasm is backed by a strong foundation of teaching essentials and a clear love of teaching young minds. Also, she was very accommodating with our busy schedules. A great find!

I would like to start off by saying thank you for your help (even though it was for a short time). You have not only helped my son you have built his confidence back up. He really enjoyed meeting with you and he had fun also. It wasn't just a drill lesson in math, it was a fun learning experience. His words not mine. Nancy is truly a wonderful teacher. She really knows what she is doing and how to get an understanding on how to get the right teaching tools to help each individual student that fits their needs. I HIGHLY recommend Nancy to anyone. My opinion the best there is. So again thank you so much.

My son was diagnosed with learning difficulties and at 10 years old was still not able to read. After searching for a couple of months we discovered Nancy! Not only is Ms. C. qualified to teach all subjects but she also is someone who has a knack for communicating teaching concepts in easy-to-learn and novel ways that appeal to a 10 year old boy. She applies many of her concepts to real world scenarios which make the learning experience so much more interesting. We had been seeing other tutors for a longer period of time with no success. She has been tutoring our son for about six weeks and I have seen him blossom! Instead of reading books to my son, he is reading books to me! Nancy is very energetic and delightful and takes a personal interest in her students. She is very flexible with her schedule and actually comes to my house for tutoring lessons. She arrives on time and works until the last minute of her tutoring time. I highly recommend Nancy S. for your next tutor!

Nancy tutored my two son's over the summer. One in middle school, and the other in kindergarten. Not only do my kids love her, but I think she's amazing as well. In fact, my kids both wish she could tutor them year round and be their teacher for everything. She is incredible with children - patient, funny, kind, smart! She has many strategies to tutor in many different areas and ways of learning. I would recommend her to everyone that is looking for a tutor! We will definitely be getting in touch with her for next summer! :)

Nancy did a great job working with my daughter on Orton Gillingham starter principles. This first session was establishing baselines and building interest and excitement for her.
