Dr. Maria - Biology Tutoring
My name is Maria and I have a PhD in Biology. I currently work part time as a researcher at CU in Boulder but always enjoyed teaching and have missed it since I stopped. I have a lot of experience teaching biology courses at the college level and am very confident that I can help students at any level of biology to improve their understanding of the subject. At CU I have taught general biology, non-majors biology and genetics. While most of my professional experience has been teaching at the ...

Great follow through with my daughter and got her up speed on the subject matter quickly. improved her grade by one whole letter. Was impressed with her flexibility with scheduling and positive attitude towards this process. As my daughter was happy with the experience and succeeded in the subject, I could not be more thrilled with Maria's overall performance.

Maria is a phenomenal tutor who takes the time to answer my questions. Her level of expertise in the subject matter of Biology is incredibly prevalent, especially when I'm confused or simply not grasping a concept. She's helped me expand my realm on knowledge on topics ranging from Mendelian genetics to transcription of DNA to mRNA. She's good at explaining things in a way that students can easily relate to. I look forward to continue working with her as she helps me prepare for my SAT Subject tests in Biology and AP Biology exams. I'd recommend her to anyone whose looking for a tutor who is personable, patient, and passionate.

Maria is amazing! I literally knew absolutely nothing about biology when I first met up with her. She has patiently taught me everything I needed to know for my CU-Boulder EBIO class. Without Maria I would without a question be failing this class. Not only is she is extremely knowledgeable in biology, she's also extremely patient with me which I can't express how much I appreciate. It's hard to find a tutor these days who can teach you the material, make you interested in the material, and at the same time have an understanding and patient approach. And she goes above and beyond meeting those standards.

We needed an algebra tutor for my 8th grade daughter as during placement exams she was noted as "a year behind" her peers in her new school. We were advised to revise 5 sections of the Algebra book that they used. I was expecting to have to have a tutor every week for a few months at least but Maria was able to get my daughter caught up in about 4 sessions during August. I was pleasantly surprised when after two weeks of school on the first parent's night the algebra instructor specifically mentioned that my daughter was completely caught up with her peers. One thing I've also noticed is how neat my daughter's work is now. Before Maria my daughter's work was all over the page and a scribbled mess. Her presentation is now not just neat, but very beautiful with the use of colors in her lines and graphs. I'm not sure if Maria influenced the artistry in algebra but my daughter no longer rushes through the work to "get it done" but instead actually ENJOYS spending time on her algebra homework.

She is assisting me in preparing to take a biology course in the fall. She does an excellent job of simplifying concepts so they are easy to understand.
