Statistics - Tutor with Practical Experience who likes to Teach

I have over 20 years of REAL experience in the field of statistics. When I first started, statistics was extremely difficult. Almost like a foreign language. Through both my job as well as teaching, I understand not only statistical applications, but HOW to best teach the subject to people. I have taught at the University of Utah as well as Front Range Junior College in Longmont Colorado. I understand that people learn differently, and part of my job as a tutor is to quickly figure out th...

I have a B.S. degree in Mathematics, and M.S. degree in Mathematical Statistics with over 21 years of practical experience in actually using mathematics and statistics in industry. This corresponds well with the math portion of Praxis (number theory, measurement, probability, algegra, geometry, reasoning, etc), In addition, I have tutored at least 40 students over the years and have taught approximately 20 university classes and have gained insight into various student learning methods. Lastly, my ability to teach adults in mathematics (especially Praxis, which deals with practical adult learning) is the 21 years of consulting with engineers, financial professionals, nurses, and other professionals. I believe this will translate well to tutoring in the mathematics portion of Praxis.

I have met with Jim two times now and after both sessions I feel like I can handle statistics instead of being completely scared of it! I am taking my course online so I miss out on the face to face interaction or at least having someone explain a little more what each concept is trying to say. Jim is great at answering my questions and also with providing me other examples that help explain the concept from different angles. You can tell that he knows what he is talking about and is very knowledgeable on the subject and some times that can back fire from a beginner student perspective because the information isn't brought down to the beginner level. He makes it very palatable while not making me feel like I am being talked down to.

Math has always been my worst subject, and when I started statistics, it truly felt like a foreign language. A month or so in to the semester a classmate and I were at what felt like rock bottom. We understood very little and just couldn't apply the few things that we did grasp. We found Jim on WyzAnt and he was a Godsend!!! He is easy to schedule sessions with, has a working knowledge of the subject, and most importantly was patient and genuine with us. He broke things down in such a way that made it easy to understand, and you can tell he truly enjoys the subject, which I believe makes him a great tutor. Our grades greatly improved and we passed the course with flying colors! If you are struggling, need someone who will listen to your needs/concerns, and are seeking an overall fantastic tutor, Jim is your guy!
