autism
I have worked in the public and private school settings with children and adolescents with autism. I have over 30 years of experience as a Speech/Language Pathologist. I understand and am proficient following an IEP. I also know that a child is more than what is written on an IEP, which can make the difference between success and failure when working with children with autism. I understand the need for consistency and knowing what's next. I have the patience and willingness to try different methods as well as reinforcing what works with your child or teenager. I am familiar with making schedules, writing social stories or scripting. Students with autism respond positively to my relaxed and positive nature. I hold a Certificate of Clinical Competency from ASHA(American Speech/Language and Hearing Association), am licensed as a Speech/Language Pathologist in CT by the Department of Health, and hold a CT Educators License in Speech Pathology - Endorsement - 061 for Pre-K to grade 12. It is very difficult to find the right person for each child. I would be happy to speak with you and your child or adult and determine if we are the right fit. I look forward to hearing from you and beginning a wonderful partnership in learning.
Aspergers
I have over 30 years experience working with elementary and secondary students diagnosed with Asperger's. I enjoy working with middle and high school aged students. My upbeat and positive personality makes sessions enjoyable. I use a variety of materials to help with school, community or family related social skills. I may use computer software programs, iPad apps, customized social stories, movies, published social skills materials or real life situations. I believe in helping my students feel empowered and important. I am a Speech/Language Pathologist, certified by ASHA (American Speech/Language and Hearing Association). ADD/ADHD
I am a licensed and certified Speech/Language Pathologist with an educational endorsement for Pre-K to grade 12. My personality is upbeat, positive and perfect for middle and high school students. I have over 30 years of experience working in the public and private school sector working within the classroom setting with resource room students who may or may not be language impaired. I know how to break tasks down into manageable parts and use a student's strengths (auditory, visual...) to assist. Having an understanding of what is expected from a student, I bring my experience of patience and firm but gentle structure into the tutoring session. My students say I make learning fun and I am 'real.' My aim is to allow the student to be empowered and be an active participant in their learning. I know how to use and teach effective strategies for students with ADD/ADHD, so they are not overwhelmed. My students do not fail.

My daughter has been tutored by Donna for a month and the improvements are noticeable already. Ms. Donna is thorough in preparing for each lesson and although my child has attention issues, Ms. Donna has mastered ways to get her attention that are educational and fun! My daughter adores her and loves learning with "Ms. Donna"!
