Stephen

Tutor of Math, Physics and Engineering ... available online

I am a patient and flexible assistant helping you to learn these difficult subjects. Few people are aware of the challenge you are undertaking and some special help may make all the difference in your success. I am retired from industry having worked in many functions involving Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality Assurance and Program Management. The subjects are technical in nature and, as a Tutor, seeing problems solved is what students want. For an online session, I have my camera arrang...

Microsoft Project

Microsoft Project ... I have used MSP for many professional projects over the years including factory relocations, new product introductions and capital improvement projects. I find it best used by starting out with the team to define the work elements gaining agreement on timing amount of work required. Project is very handy for keeping track of issues and communicating both to the next level of management and to the team members. It can be as simple or as complicated as desired. The Gantt and Pert chart options are nice too giving easy ways to determine critical paths for different options.

statistics

I studied Statistics both in College and as a part of Industry training to implement statistical methods of quality control and assessment. I have a TI-84 calculator and can help students use that device to make lists, draw graphs, calculate probabilities, develop regressions, use normal curve, calculate Z-Scores and Histograms.

linear algebra

I studied and later used Linear Algebra as an Electrical Engineer developing numerical techniques to optimize circuit designs for cost and performance. These techniques often utilize matrix algebra to develop the mathematical links between the task and the computer model. I learned the matrix algebra in college as part of Circuit analysis, Structural analysis and in Mathematics. Numerical techniques of optimization often involve a "Simplex" technique that will identify the "direction" a variable should change in order to maximize or minimize the objective variable. Few techniques are universally applicable so other non-linear techniques have been developed which can find local optimums in the midst of a complex N-dimensional space. Given the complexity, the computer is a "must use" tool for these methods and several software packages are available, even Excel has a "Solver" that can accomplish some of these tasks.

Works well with keeping the flow of math lessons going, Stephen does a great job. Looking forward to more sessions working with my son.

Amanda A. from Gainesville, FL

Mr. H is a great tutor. He is very knowledgeable in excel, respectful, and kind. He answered all my questions and gave me enough time to understand the process on how to resolve the problems I had with Excel. I highly recommend him.

Vivian P. from Gainesville, FL

My 17 year old describes Stephen as someone who makes sense of algebra 2. Stephen was very responsive to email requests and open to all our questions as parents. Mature professional and knowledgeable. We are very happy with his tutoring style and capabilities.

Lisa P. from Gainesville, GA

Thanks so much for the time you are spending tutoring my son and for being so accommodating to his schedule!

Kathy G. from Gainesville, FL

Stephen has helped my son become a confident student in his math class. He has had the highest test grade twice. This is a huge improvement over his first attempt in the class. Stephen is easy to communicate with and very quick to respond to any messages.

Shane V. from Ocala, FL

Knowledgeable of the subject matter and made a lot of sense. Clear and to the point of what's important to know.

Ahmad K. from Springfield, VA

he is an excellent tutor! He takes the time on every question to help me better understand the subject. He is also well mannered and polite. Thank you!

Paige M. from Gainesville, FL

Stephen is patient and answers questions thoroughly! I did not understand physics until he helped me conceptualize and apply physics to real life scenarios. He is a great tutor who is flexible and easy to contact as well. I would highly recommend him as a tutor and will continue to use him in the future!
