Laure

Ph.D in Biochem, Biophysics; Tutor in Chemistry

Dear Parents and Students: Why should you choose me as a tutor? First and foremost, I do care about each student that I help, young or older. Caring involves getting to know you the student and taking genuine interest in your difficulties with school work. After all, I was a student too and I did appreciate someone taking a sincere interest in my work. I must add that I am very flexible and I can adapt my teaching and helping style to students of different ages. I have helped high school ...

ACT Science

This exam will test your aptitude for taking college courses and will give schools an idea of your educational development. Science questions on this test can be tricky. I can help with the content of the test, i.e. the actual science as well as the way a student answers a question by teaching test-taking strategies.

algebra 1

Algebra is one of my favorite subjects in school. It was useful to me in college and in my chemistry classes. Algebra can be fun and entertaining. I can help you with your homework.

biochemistry

biology

Biology covers many areas of knowledge. I am especially knowledgeable with anatomy/physiology, cell biology, microbiology, and genetics. My background in biochemistry helps tremendously because it is looking at biology from the molecular standpoint, increasing my understanding of how to teach biology and how to help someone with that subject.

ESL/ESOL

ESL stands for "English as a Second Language". ESOL stands for "English for Speakers of Other Languages". Language learners often make mistakes of syntax and pronunciation. It is believed that these errors are the result of their mother tongue. For example, a non-native speaker might inappropriately map sentence structure from his first language onto the second. Pronouncing certain "foreign sounds" might be harder for the student. Confusing items of vocabulary known as false friends may be a challenge as well. Idiomatic expressions are also a formidable obstacle for most non-native speakers. Idioms are expressions of ideas made in a unique way in a particular tongue. Translating an idiom into a speaker's first language would mean nothing or perhaps even be non-sense. These expressions must be learned. Their meanings are mostly understood by a student when he or she thinks in the second language like his or her first language. My first language is French and my second language is English, but I am bilingual so I think in both languages. I can help anyone with problems learning English as I worked out my own difficulties in English before I became bilingual.

French

French is widely spoken throughout the world: in France (of course), in Canada, Polynesia, certain countries in Africa, Haiti, and a few other islands near the Caribbeans. You need help for traveling or guidance for school work? I can help with speaking, writing, reading, and comprehension.

GED

I have passed a French high school diploma and I also passed a GED test in the US so that I could easily attend college in the US. I am knowledgeable in all areas of the GED test as I have a very broad educational background. My favorites are science, writing, reading, and algebra. I would be glad to help anyone attain the worthy goal of passing the GED test.

organic chemistry

prealgebra

Pre-algebra teaches necessary concepts and reasoning preparing the student for algebra. I can show clearly how to solve basic problems that will lead the student to be more confident for taking algebra.

TOEFL

The TOEFL test is the most widely known English proficiency test in the world. It prepares you to demonstrate to higher education institutions, learning programs, scholarship institutions and others that you are capable of handling university work given in English. You can take the internet-based test or the paper-based test. Most test takers take the internet-based tests. Keep in mind that the strategy used to take the internet test versus the paper-based test is different. Help is given on the test-taking strategy and on the English language difficulties you are facing.

Najmah A. from Hamden, CT

After the first session with Laure, I can tell you that she is excellent tutor. I really like her way in teaching style, and I can't imagine my course without laure. I encourage you to work with her; you can always reach her by email and phone easily.

Lisa B. from Middletown, CT

Laure will explain a single thing in different ways until one understands the concept. I like this quality very much. We all learn in different ways and Laure understands that. And, as an older student, it is even a little harder to learn and she breaks it down and makes it easier.

Therese N. from Glastonbury, CT

Laure is working with our daughter preparing for her SAT exam. She is extremely patient and has helped our daughter through positive reinforcement. She has given our daughter the confidence to improve her test taking skills by giving her helpful hints on how to attack each questions. Our daughter is more motivated to do extra work in-between sections with Laure's guidance.

John S. from Amston, CT

The first session went very well with my son. He came away feeling very confident on the material that he and the tutor covered.

Charles R. from South Glastonbury, CT

Laure is a very patient and knowledgeable tutor. There was a problem, however, which was of my making, not of hers - I am hard of hearing, and the place we agreed to meet had a great deal of background noise which made it difficult for me to hear sometimes. This is my fault for not foreseeing the problem. Things will be much better at our next meeting, to which I am looking forward, and for which I am preparing.

Rachel M. from Meriden, CT

I was very overwhelmed with chemistry! As it is close to the end of the semester, I didn't think that I would be able to accomplish all of the things I needed to get done and understand for the final. But after about two hours of studying with Laure, I completely understood my material and am confident that I will do well in chemistry!
