Innovative & Fun with a Ph.D. in Compassion and Integrity

I am a firm believer that education is a key component to success and happiness in life, and I have been on a mission to inspire my students for almost two decades now. My teaching philosophy is grounded in the idea that all students can learn. It is my job to discover my students' learning style and cultivate a love of learning wherein my students become self-motivated and self-directed learners as they come to recognize how a particular lesson is applicable to their life. ADD/ADHD

I have worked with students with ADD/ADHD for almost two decades in one of the largest school districts in America in addition to my private practice. I am a Florida Department of Education Certified School Counselor. I have been trained in crisis management, positive behavior plans, and behavior analysis. I have successfully developed and implemented strategies that help both children and adults learn more effective focusing strategies and coping mechanisms. Furthermore, I have developed and facilitated workshops (well over a dozen times) that have helped teachers, parents, and family members relate more effectively to those who have ADD/ADHD. In addition to my experiences listed above, I have a Ph. D. in Psychology and a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology.

Aspergers

I work in a public school that has almost 900 students in typical classes in addition to two clusters for special needs students. Many of these students (in typical classrooms and in the clusters) have been identified as having Aspergers. I am well aware that the DSM has made the distinction between Aspergers and Autism and I keep up with the latest research on how best to support people with this issue. I am a member of the Response to Intervention (RtI) team and I provide input on creating students' Individual Education Plans' (IEP)'s including determining present level of performance and setting goals. Naturally, I also am responsible to help implement the plan. I hold a Florida Department of Education Certification in School Guidance and Counseling and I am a National Board Certified Teacher. I have been trained in Functional Behavior Assessment and Positive Behavior Intervention Plans in addition to being trained in crisis management. Furthermore, I have a Ph. D. in Psychology and a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology.
