I had been studying Japanese for a few months on my own by watching news programs, movies and reading through a textbook. At first it was difficult to tell what level I was at or if I was even speaking the language correctly as I had no one to practice with. When I first met with Mrs. D, she was very calm and patient with me. It was through her I was able to figure out were I am at in learning Japanese. Her teaching methods and explanations are very clear and each time I visit her I feel as though I know so much more than before. Mrs. D is the perfect tutor for anyone really wanting to improve their skills in the Japanese language!

I only needed 1 brief coaching session and Eriko was perfect. Very professional, courteous, prompt, fun, she helped me with exactly what I needed. I highly recommend her as a Japanese tutor.

I started taking lessons from Eriko ahead of a planned vacation to Japan because I had no formal schooling in Japanese and Rosetta Stone just wasn't cutting it. Several months later and a couple of weeks ahead of my trip, I can say that I'm so glad that I started taking lessons from Eriko and that I certainly plan to continue learning Japanese under Eriko's tutelage for the foreseeable future. Why? Simply put, Eriko is outstanding. She comes prepared for our lessons each week with tailored lesson plans for each of her students (and she has a lot of them so this is pretty impressive!), mini-whiteboard in hand, and positive attitude. She is a native speaker of Japanese, unlike some other tutors, and as a native speaker she not only commands a strong understanding of the language, she also teaches you idioms or expressions that are not necessarily covered in textbooks as well as instructing you on the way a native Japanese person would make a given statement even if the way you think you would construct the statement is grammatically correct. These insights add a lot of value to her instruction. Furthermore, her teaching style is very collaborative, and she will notice your weaknesses and follow up to help you focus on areas/topics that you are struggling with. Additionally, she maintains an active Twitter and Facebook presence. For a lot of other companies/businesses this is usually pretty gimmicky, but for Eriko this is actually a great way for her to interact with her students and for you it is a fantastic way to practice your Nihongo (Japanese) outside of lessons! As an added bonus, she sometimes brings in TASTY JAPANESE SNACKS. Yes, I have successfully been bribed, but I wouldn't be writing this review if I didn't have a great experience otherwise! In any case, if you are in the Atlanta area and are looking for a Japanese tutor to help you with conversational Japanese or are working on a rigorous program in preparation for the JLPT exam, Eriko is the sensei you want! Ganbatte! (Good luck!)

I started my tutoring with Eriko midway through my Japanese 2001 semester. I was barely passing the class as I had missed several days of school and had so many questions that I didn't know where to start. I had never met with a tutor before and I had no idea what to expect or even how to articulate the questions that I had. Eriko is a fantastic tutor. She immediately put me at ease, and helped me figure out where to start with my tutoring by going over previous tests and making corrections together. She is incredibly patient and would always bring along study materials and worksheets that reinforced what we discussed the previous tutoring sessions. Eriko also showed me alternative books and study materials that I could use and even made copies of lessons from those books so that I would not have to try to write all of the information down by hand. I went from failing my midterm to passing the class with a B which I am still in shock about. There is no doubt in my mind that I would have failed this class were it not for Eriko. I will be seeing her next year for Japanese 2002!

Eriko is really helping my son with the Japanese characters and speaking Japanese. He already had a good understanding of the language. We highly recommend her as a Japanese tutor!!!

I sat down with Ms. Eriko and I must say, she is amazing We had difficulty at first finding the last word but she puts her all into her students, offering notes and helping to pronounce words. Even in difficulty where I became discouraged she still never gave up to find the translation I was looking for. I would advise anyone looking to learn Japanese or, get things translated correctly to go to her.

If you read nothing else, read this: Eriko is an exceptional Japanese tutor. Knowledgeable, kind, and above all patient, she provided the perfect support and assistance for me to get through my International Baccalaureate exams with confidence. Always prepared with both an arsenal of kanji worksheets and an encouraging word, she is an ideal tutor for anyone hoping to improve their language skills in an academic way. While her time with me focused primarily on reading and writing skills, Eriko’s base as a native speaker sets her apart from others teaching from a foreign perspective. There is no one I would recommend more highly.

Ms. Eriko is my son's Japanese language tutor. She is a lovely and intelligent lady originally from Japan. Her hard work and dedication as a young student was rewarded with a scholarship to a Georgia University where she studied education and became a teacher. We see her positive teaching spirit in all of her lessons, and with help by email between lessons. She always comes prepared with a marker board to demonstrate the Japanese symbols. Her teaching style is patient and thorough. We would highly recommend her to others.

Learned a lot more than I though I could in an hour. The lesson was effective. We went over lesson 1-3 in Genki.

I have been a student of Eriko Sensei for about a year now and she is fantastic. I'm an older student and require lots of time and patience. Never once has she shown impatience and is always diligent with her encouragement. Not only does she cater her lessons or reviews to your specific needs, she occasionally throws in items for review so you don't loose what you've already learned.
