ADD/ADHD

I taught for four years at Brookwood Christian Language School located in Acworth, Georgia which services students diagnosed with language based learning disabilities. Besides their language disorder diagnosis, many of these students also had ADD/ADHD. I was also a private tutor for students in neighboring schools all of which had ADD/ADHD and were on some form of medication for it. I know that students with this diagnosis need frequent breaks, the curriculum chunked into smaller chunks, items color coded and/high lighted to give those learners focus, and a tutor that is enthusiastic about their learning progress whether it be large or small.

Aspergers

I taught students on the higher functioning end diagnosed with Aspergers for four years at Brookwood Christian Language School. My experience with such students is to be a patient so as not to trigger any anxieties, to set short term goals and celebrate those success, and to be enthusiastic about their learning experience. Two of my high school English students for example, I helped prepare to pass the neighboring technical college's writing exam, so they could dual enroll as high school students.
