Changing Attitudes from I can't to I can
My love of math began in middle school when I learned about integers. Learning about integers was fun because our class was playing Bingo using integers. I wanted to learn more concepts and the more I learned my passion grew as well. That love of math influenced my decision to major and graduate with a B.S. in Mathematics from Georgia State University. I began volunteering as a tutor between 2006 and 2009 in mathematics from elementary to College Algebra and started again in 2012, the same ye...

elementary science
Science was my second favorite subject in school overall. I enjoyed learning about atoms and molecules, the functions of the human body such as the digestive, respiratory, circulatory, and skeletal systems. Science is also a cool way to explain the forces of nature and their causes.

spelling
I'm an excellent speller. In grade school my teachers would give a list of spelling words to study on an weekly basis and were given a quiz the following day. On my quizzes/tests I made all A's and my strategies were to use letters as objects/things/and names (for example, s as in Sam) or I would learn how to spell words by some type of rhythm in my head. Some of my classmates knew this skill of mine and asked me to spell words for them and even today with some of my peers and family.
English
English is complementary to Grammar as these tools are both needed in writing. For English and Grammar subjects it is highly important to learn vocabulary because students must be able to learn prefixes and suffixes, verb tense, articles ( a, an, or the), and many more. I will proofread English papers from K through high school.

grammar
Grammar is a structural set of rules of how words are used in a language. In my experience I have seen papers containing words that sound alike but used inappropriately in a sentence, for example, whether vs. weather. One of the words talks about temperature and other conditions, and the other word is define as one or the other. In this lesson students will identify common grammatical mistakes such as subject-verb disagreements, parts of a speech- nouns, pronouns, adjectives, etc., frequently misspelled words, and punctuation.

reading
This lesson will be about how to read with understanding. Identifying the main idea, drawing conclusions using deductive and inductive reasoning, and making inferences. I won't be teaching phonics.

Telisha was great. She explained things in a way that made it easy for me to understand. She was patient and didn't get frustrated when I didn't understand something! I will use her again if ever needed! She helped me pass both my math classes!!
