Success with Reading through Phonics
Hello Families, I am currently a first grade teacher that has been in the public school system for the last 21 years. I have taught all grades in elementary school and have a Master's in Reading And Literacy. I am also trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach to teaching struggling learners to have success in all areas of language. If you are not familiar with this teaching style, the focus is on students that have possible issues with attention (ADD, ADHD) dyslexia, and struggling learners...
ADD/ADHD
I have worked in inclusion classrooms for 15 of my 21 years. I have students with ADD and ADHD in my room with great success. I use hands on learning, tactile support, balance balls for core engagement and music to support the need for multiple learning styles. I also teach the children yoga to support personal control over their bodies. I do not believe you must medicate a child to teach them success.
