Anna

ASL and English Tutor

I love tutoring! I have over 14 years of experience in tutoring, both on-line and in-person. I used to be an Accountant but I wanted more interaction with people and changed careers. In 2008, I started tutoring at the National Institute of Technology for the Deaf (NTID) in Rochester, New York. There, I tutored deaf and hard-of-hearing students in the business college assisting them at the university-level business courses. I have a Bachelor's degree in Economics and an MBA degree in Accountin...

We had a great first lesson with Anna. She was very patient and explained very well how the ASL grammar works. She was able to work with us, even at our beginning level. I completely recommend her as a tutor.

I desperately needed help with my ASL II class! I had taken the first ASL class about 10 years prior and had forgotten waaay more than I thought. I took the second class and thought it would be like riding a bike - they say it all comes back to you shortly after resuming. Nope. Not the case with Sign Language (or any language for that matter). If you don't use it you will lose it, and I lost a LOT of it. Anyway, it was about a month before the end of the semester, and I found myself struggling and in fear of not doing so well on my last two video narrative projects and/or possibly failing my final exam! Anna came to my rescue! She tutored me over Skype and made herself available on nearly a daily basis. She tweaked my ASL scripts, helped me write English to ASL, and took the time to ensure that I executed all signs properly. In the end, I earned a 196/200 on my final narrative and an 89/100 on my final exam. Overall, I earned an A in the class! I have developed such a love and respect for ASL that I am considering going into the Sign Language Interpreting Program and/or getting a Masters Degree in Deaf Education. She gave me my confidence back. Thanks Anna!

Our first lesson went very fast and we accomplished more than I'd expected. I like to move fast and sort of jump around and Anna worked with my style to help me learn!
