As a veteran teacher, I have taught students with a variety of special needs. I have taught in in an IRR environment, as well as when they were pulled out in small group settings. As a newly certified Georgia teacher, I was required to take a Special Needs class for students. I have also worked with students who have profound physical special needs. Some special needs students, particularly those with some Asperger's, need additional, more rapidly presented work. Others require special patience and differentiated lessons.

I have taught school for 22 years in both middle and high school grades. In the past decade, I have taught students with special needs, including very bright students with Aspergers. I understand the needs of these students who are on the high functioning end of the autism spectrum and I realize that they sometimes have socialization skills in the classroom. They need stimulation beyond most students and while academically successful, have differing methodologies to achieve that success.
