ADD/ADHD

I have had the honor of teaching several students with ADHD in private tutoring sessions. The reason I say "honor" is because these children are generally quite bright and very teachable IF they are taught in a way that is relevant and not boring to them. Generally, a child or adult with ADHD will learn more and learn quicker in a one-on-one setting. In addition to my experience with tutoring clients, my own son has ADHD and I successfully home schooled him for five years. Finally, being a parent of an ADHD child gives me great compassion and understanding for the enormous struggles parents face in navigating life with their ADHD child and in dealing with school personnel who may or may not be flexible and adaptive with your child.

Melissa is really great!! My son looks forward to going for his sessions. She is very accommodating and really patient. My son loves doing the assignments given by her. They are not the typical homework assignments. My son is already doing much better in school as per his teacher. Thank you so much for helping my son :)

I'm an adult student who went back to college to pursue a teaching degree. Because I'd been out of school for a long time, I found it difficult to prepare for the TAP test. I met with Melissa sometimes two times a week and she accommodated my difficult schedule. She is very knowledgeable about test taking, language arts and reading; she gave me many useful strategies to use during my test. Melissa walked through the study guides with me and she was very helpful in explaining concepts I was having trouble with. Melissa was very easy to get along with and she has a gift for teaching and tutoring. If I ever need a tutor again, I will be calling Melissa! Thank you Melissa!

Melissa continues to do a great job with my son. He loves going to her. As a parent I appreciate her style and way of using activities that keep Lucas busy as he learns. She is very organized and leverages an online tool for Lucas to keep learning on the days he does not meet with her.

Sandro N. from Rockford, IL

I had just two hours with Melissa, it was the best class that I got so far. Thanks Melissa.

My son is excited to go and I feel like we are already seeing some progress. Plus I love the detailed reports.

Melissa spends two hours twice a week with our third grader. He had trouble in his classroom and so the decision was made to take him out of school for the last quarter. Thank goodness we found Melissa who has experience home schooling and is such an engaging person. Her dual focus is to see he finishes the third grade curriculum and to prepare him to re-enter a normal classroom in the fall. Learning is fun again.

Melissa did a great job providing my son speech and communication tools to build his confidence. She was well prepared for each session and her online teaching was excellent.

I originally contacted Melissa for help on presentation and communication skills, however, I gained more than good technical help, she helped me build my confidence and overcome public speaking anxiety. As a non- native English speaker, Melissa also helped me understand the idiosyncrasies and the different political viewpoints of American society. These skills enhanced my comfort level when engaging with other colleagues in the market place. She is truly a friend and a mentor, always there to support me emotionally and help me keep my perspective about work and life in balance.
