Hello, my name is Mark. I am a state certified English instructor who is currently working towards my PhD in Educational Leadership. I have experience working as an ACT Instructor, and find it to be extremely rewarding to work directly with students. I am patient and empathetic, but also organized and tenacious. Every type of learner has the ability to reach their potential with the right kind of guidance. The goal is to take the fear out of writing and reading, and make it an enjoyable experience. In the same way, standardized tests like the ACT need not be a daunting prospect for students. I have a passion for helping students to learn the content area subject. But I also seek to teach the student HOW to learn in the process - comprehension, mastery, and critical thinking. My interests include literature, film, and music. In my free time, I enjoy writing and drawing. I also have classroom writing experience at Second City. I like to bring the same creativity from these endeavors to the tutoring experience. No matter how big the challenge, there is always a way. I will find that solution and make a priority of the struggling student. I am located in Elmwood Park, but can travel anywhere in the Chicagoland area - city or suburbs.
