autism

I have taught students with autism for over 15 years I know how to set up work stations, structure the classroom, individualized each student's program based on their potential. I took the class for autism and received my endorsement to teach this specific disability. I have experience in writing IEPs to meet the specific goals that need to be mastered along with integration of the general education subjects for the Autistic students to be able to learn at their ability level with success us. The skills that I have taught my former students have helped them to be integrated with their non- disabled peers, graduate with honors and continue their education at the college level.

ADD/ADHD

I am qualified to teach students with ADD, being a special education teacher, I have had to implement different strategies to help the student stay on task. Students that have various deficits sometimes also have ADD/ADHD, therefore I have written IEPs to specifically address this deficit. One strategy that I used was time on task for a certain amount minutes, break, then repeat, the goal is for the student to eventually be able to stay on task longer over a period of time. Use of a reinforcer of the student's preference will also help to motivate the student to stay focus and on task for longer periods of time successfully.
