Science/Math Tutor committed to your success!

I made the decision to become a teacher when I was six years old. I was born and raised in Massachusetts and am so very thankful to every teacher who ever walked into my life. As a young girl, I always looked upon Science as a challenging area of study, though at the time most Science teachers were males. Well, I did realize my goal to become a Science teacher... and that was almost 40 years ago! I certainly have my High School AP Biology teacher to thank for inspiring me during my senior yea...

I have just retired from teaching Science after 39 years as a classroom instructor at the secondary level in public education, including having instructed GED courses for parents and students who decided to return to school to earn their high school diploma, as well as having instructed students with IEP's and state mandated accommodations to help these students meet with success in the science (lab-based) classroom. The majority of these students who required accommodations were diagnosed as ADD, ADHD, and/or Autistic (Asperger's Syndrome, mild autism, severe autism with emotional issues). Each teacher in my school in Illinois (where I am licensed) is required each year to complete coursework and testing on educational modules on Special Education. I learned ADD/ADHD strategies for instructors, prompts for and behaviors to observe and watch for that are exhibited by autistic students at specific ends of the spectrum. I attended staffings, read and logged in all communications with team leaders. My students with special needs have been very successful in the classroom as a result of these professional growth activities, state requirements and positive working relationships with my special education colleagues, and help from special education aides who have been assigned to travel with specific students as they learn and work with others in my classroom.

Sharon P tutored my high school senior in her AP Chemistry class. Sharon discussed my daughter's needs before her first tutoring session and came well-prepared. She has a great deal of knowledge and wanted to do her best to assist my daughter and help her be successful in this difficult class.

Great tutor! Sharon P. is a very skilled teacher and communicates extremely well. She has worked with my son for 4 months in ACT prepping as well as HS Biology and I have seen a very positive impact in my son's progress in school. I have used quite a few tutors over the years but not one as dedicated and caring as Sharon. Highly recommend her to kids of all ages.

Organization skills. She kept my son involved and on task during the organizing process for various subjects and their binders, folders, and notebooks. She also helped him with tips and daily/weekly practices to keep his backpack organized.

My daughter has had 2 sessions with Sharon on ACT prep and specifically with math and science sections. My daughter feels like she is helping her a lot. She explains things well and makes sure my daughter understands.

I am a tutoring coordinator for a non-profit that works with community college students. Sharon worked with one of my students on her upper level science classes. She was great! Not only did she have a comprehensive grasp of the subject matter (even more so than the professor teaching the course), but she was able to convey this information to my student effectively with limited time each week. Sharon prepared my student to not only excel in her current course, but laid the groundwork for her to succeed in more difficult courses moving forward.

Sharon is an excellent tutor. After just one lesson my daughter was more confident and learned more form Sharon than she has probably learned the entire semester!
