autism

I have over 20 years of experience with the workings of the Autistic mind and the coping mechanisms and accommodations required for an Autistic student to achieve academic success. I understand executive dysfunction, inability to conceptualize time, difficulty focusing, stress-related meltdowns and shutdowns, and other Autistic traits that may interfere with academic performance. I have unique insight into how to address these issues safely and constructively for an Autistic student. This is because I am Autistic. I am also an active member an the neurodiversity movement and keep myself up to date with the latest publications about Autistic history, self-advocacy, the complex embodiment model and social models of disability, and disability rights. I participated in Day of Mourning 2015 and several Autistic rights-related events such as Justice for Kayleb (related to ethical treatment of Autistic elementary students) and Walk in Red 2015.
