Esther
Retired Learning Disabilities Teacher
I've worked in a variety of settings from public elementary schools as a Resource Teacher to private institutions. Each student is unique and deserves an education tailored to his learning style, whether visual, auditory, or hands on. An artist in my free time, I enjoy getting creative in helping students learn. My first priority is helping the student succeed and enjoy learning in the process. With my special education training I look first at why the student may be struggling, then find ...

ADD/ADHD
I have current teaching certification at the elementary level in New York and Utah. I have worked with a number of children diagnosed as ADD/ADHD in the public and private sectors. The key to encouraging children to learn is to present new information in a way they can both understand and be interested in knowing about. All children need to be successful. All children deserve a chance to focus on and buy into their own learning endeavors.
Aspergers
I worked one on one with boys with autism in the Utah public school system. One was a 1st grade student unable to communicate verbally, but did progress to the point of inviting me to join him in his activity. The other boy was a fifth grader, higher on the autism scale. Again I worked one on one with him. His verbal and academic skills were good, but he needed help finding his way through regular education classes. I have a Masters in Special Education with an emphasis on Behavior Disorders. My experience includes working with children with behavior and/or learning disorders in both the public and private sectors. I taught more than five years at a residential treatment center for children with emotional disorders. I also have a second degree in Child and Family Studies.

I love how Ms. Esther thinks outside the box in meeting the needs of my three kids. They all struggle with focusing and she has helped them all to progress. They look forward to her coming every week!
