Hi, my name is Mary. I have taught for over 12 years at the elementary level, and received my MA through Lewis University in reading and literacy in 2010. My passion is seeing a student begin to believe in themselves and discover that learning can be fun. Over the past six years, I have independently tutored students, ages 5-10, in reading, language arts, social studies, writing, and basic math. Prior to tutoring independently, I worked at a local tutoring agency with students from age 4-12...

It took us a while to find the perfect reading tutor for our daughter, but we found her!! Mary was great! She made learning a lot of fun and best of all my daughter looked forward to seeing her each day. She definitely made great progress over the summer thanks to Mary.

When our daughter started first grade, she started to struggle with reading. She worked with the teacher, the reading specialist at school and us, but she still struggled. We started searching for a tutor for that added assistance. Mary was very welcoming and instantly put us all at ease. Mary started working with our daughter and within weeks we saw great results. We are extremely pleased with the work that Mary has done with our daughter. Mary is patient, kind and consistently finds new ways to teach our daughter. Mary combines games, activities and challenges custom fit for our daughter. Our first grader is now reading at the same level as the rest of her classmates. She has gained confidence in her reading and we couldn’t be more proud of her. Mary continues to make a difference in our daughter’s education and we couldn’t be happier with the results. I would recommend Mary to anyone in search of a reading specialist.

Our first grader was struggling with reading and was quickly falling behind by Christmastime. She was in the bottom level reading group at school and was very reluctant to accept help from Mom or Dad. She didn't "like" to read because she had so much difficulty. She also became frustrated easily and as a result, her confidence level was rapidly declining. When Mary first came to us, she was prepared with assessment tools which she immediately administered to our daughter. Mary quickly determined our daughter's strengths and weaknesses in reading and developed a plan of tutoring specifically tailored to our daughter's needs. In a few weeks we started noticing marked improvement in her reading ability. Throughout the tutoring sessions, Mary continually re-evaluated our daughter and planned future lessons accordingly. She also provided great feedback to us on our daughter's progress. Mary was able to accomplish what our daughter's teacher AND parents could not. We are so very happy with Mary - she is extremely strong academically, and also very patient and easily able to re-direct our first-grader's outgoing (and frequently fidgety) demeanor. Mary has a great sense of humor and laughs a lot with our daughter while remaining completely professional. Our daughter looks forward to her sessions with Mary because with Mary, learning is fun. We could not have asked for a more outstanding tutor. She has a flexible schedule and informs us of schedule changes well in advance. She has always been punctual. She is very forthcoming with feedback regarding our daughter's progress, as well as her thoughts/plan for future lessons. Mary is also proactive -- at the end of first grade and throughout the summer, she has been working with our daughter to bridge the reading gap between first and second grade to prepare her for the next school year. In all honesty, we don't have anything negative to report! Mary is the BEST.
