I taught my own children how to read using the phonetic method. Phonetics is the best method for teaching reading to younger children. It is a matter of emphasizing the basics of reading and then patiently working with the child to give that child the building blocks to grow into a confident reader. I was also a substitute teacher in the Carpentersville, IL, school district, working with students from preschool through eighth grade.
