Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

ADD/ADHD

I have worked with students that have ADD/ADHD in both a full classroom and small group/one-on-one settings. I can quickly adapt to learning styles. I'm very patient with children and can make the learning process fun and in conjunction with appropriate time periods. I have ADD myself and have navigated my world without medication. As a graduate student, I have a 4.0 average.

I have worked with many students diagnosed with AS, both in a classroom and individual/small group dynamic. I’m extremely sensitive to the cues a person reveals on any level and I’m flexible enough to adjust to any circumstance. I understand that poor performance may not be connected to a learning deficiency as much as a coping mechanism that allows for more effective self-expression.

Children with Autism occupy a very special place in my heart. I have worked with kids with mild to extreme cases. I've always been able to reach these beautiful angels. I can easily adapt to their most effective learning style and relate to them on their terms. I love working with these children. My favorite story to tell is when I began the school year working with an after school program as a shadow counselor for a 2nd grader. His peers were uncomfortable with him and weren't sure how to relate to him. By the end of the school year, he was the most popular kid in the program, and everyone wanted to be his friend. He was the star. I've worked as a substitute teacher in special education classroom dynamics as a shadow teacher and in tutoring capacities.
