ADD/ADHD

While I have no formal training with working with ADD/ADHD, many of the students I have worked with in the past have suffered from forms of ADD/ADHD. My mother, an elementary and middle school teacher and tutor, and I have spent many hours reading and discussing different ways to help students with this spectrum of disabilities. I feel the most important thing of working with an ADD/ADHD student is to give the student the tools to manage their own life successfully. Most often this comes through through finding ways to cope with distractions, learning ways to expel extra energy, maintaining organization at home, school, and in the bookbag, and recognizing limitations and coping with them. As all students are different, finding the ways to do these things are unique to the student and might take time and effort on my part as well as on the parts of the student and parents. Tools for ADD/ADHD students include, but are not limited to, periodic breaks including exercise to help expel energy and renew focus, organizing a binder and assignment notebook, paying attention to the amount of time one has worked on something, physical movement while studying, flashcards, and learning how to phrase questions when one needs to ask for help after spacing out. Working with students with ADD/ADHD is not the same every time, and I work with students to find the best ways for them to cope with their difficulties and succeed.

My son has been working with Kristine for three years now. On the way home after one of their sessions he began saying how good a teacher she was and how much she had helped him. He asked me how he could let her know how much he appreciated her and how good she was at explaining things in a way he could understand. I hadn't even asked him about it! Working with Kristine has been the best investment we could have made.

I was completely stressed out about a College Algebra class I was taking. I needed to pass this course in order to graduate. After reading Kristine's profile I contacted her and I am so glad that I selected her. Math is not my best subject however, she understood my needs and I enjoy her teaching methods. Kristine was flexible, smart, patient, professional, friendly and efficient with time. She exceeded my expectations. I passed my course with her help and was able to graduate. If you are looking for a tutor I suggest you choose Kristine.
