Aspergers

I am currently attaining my Masters Degree in Special Education at Grand Canyon University. My main employment for the last several years has also been teaching children who have Autism Spectrum Disorder. Once graduated, I will be a Licensed Intervention Specialist in the state of Ohio for K-12 special needs children. In the last several years, I have worked in Education with children who have special needs. I both teach and tutor. I work with General Education as well as Special Education students, particularly who have Autism or Aspergers. I have tutored children with Aspergers and Autism in grades Pre-K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 9th, 10th and 11th grades so far. During sessions, I make a point to tailor our time as needed to each student, since each will need different accommodations. For example, Aspergers students often need to be accommodated in a slightly different way than Autism students. The sessions can be prepared in a way that will most help that particular individual to optimize their learning. Often times, a student with Aspergers will benefit most from a highly engaging session with a lot of personal attention to keep them on track. I make a point to acknowledge the individual learning style of each student. This is a very important aspect to include, that will help reveal their full potential. I have worked for a Home schooling Autism Scholarship Provider School in the Cincinnati, Ohio area for several years now. I continue to have a passion for working with these amazing children. In addition to my academics and years of experience, I have also been trained by Licensed Intervention Therapists in ABA Therapy and educational methods that specifically help with students with Aspergers and Autism.

I had some reservations about getting a tutor for my 8 year old that may have turned out to not be a good fit. Katie L. eased all of our worries! She is so leveled tempered and patient, not to mention her knowledge and qualifications. She has already helped me to be a better coach and teacher. Thanks Katie! -Update Working with Katie was great for our son, Dylan! He is doing great in school and at home. Also, I have modeled a lot of how I work with him on his schoolwork after what I observed from Katie! Thanks again for everything!

Stephanie J. from Latonia, KY

My 7 year old has only had 1 session with her so far but said that he really enjoyed it. He doesn't usually enjoy anything that has to do with learning so that was exciting.

Katie is so patient and works so well with my son. He actually wakes up on Tuesday mornings and tells us that she is coming that evening. He looks forward to his time with her.

My son has been struggling with math all year. He was reluctant to work with a tutor based on other experiences. However, after each lesson with Katie, he has come back positive and hopeful. Katie looks for the skills that he already has and builds on those skills to help him remember what he already knows and move forward into new skills. This has been very encouraging both as a student and as a parent. My son responds well to encouragement and Katie has been spot on with this teaching technique. She takes things slow and he responds well to this as well. I have been very pleased and we have only had just a few lessons. My son and I look forward to many more great learning experiences with Katie!
