Alan is a phenomenal tutor for all three GRE subject areas (quantitative, verbal, and writing). The last time I had any math practice was freshman year of college, and as a current M.A. student applying to PhD programs, I felt I was generally unprepared and not confident in my skills. Alan was able to provide a comprehensive math overview that was completely tailored to the test. In addition, Alan provided great strategies for the verbal section, and helped to tailor my writing skills to fit the GRE writing section. My math score increased by five points, and my writing score by 1.5 - which bumped me up to being a more competitive candidate for PhD programs. Not only was Alan academically supportive, but he really helped with my overall confidence as a test taker (which is a huge part of beating the GRE!).

I am an adult learner who wanted help to improve my writing skills. I was hesitant to engage anyone to assist me because, frankly, I was uncomfortable with having to ask for help. I was able to move beyond my discomfort and selected Alan to tutor me based on his impressive bio, hoping that he would be able to teach me in a way that I could receive and understand information. Alan is a natural-born teacher. He readily identified where and why I got stuck in the writing process and gave me techniques that have helped me to get past my writing roadblocks. My confidence in my writing ability has improved dramatically in only a short time. And, bonus, Alan has made the learning process enjoyable. I highly recommend him.

One of the toughest things when it comes to teaching someone is finding the style and pace that meets their needs. Alan is wicked smart but also incredibly easy to relate to and a gifted instructor. My teenage daughter has zero issues being at ease with Alan and feels like his instruction really pinpointed her needs. Would highly recommend him to anyone.

Had him review and proofread my paper, had a lot of mistakes as in grammar. Failed one of my papers that he proofread.

I was very impressed by the way Alan took the time to go over the lesson with me and tell me what he thought the course of action should be for my daughter and her learning disability. He was very open to my past obervations of her and I feel very good that he is part of our ACT training. My daughter thought his lesson was helpful and was not dreading going back--as she has with some tutors in the past.

Alan was able to give very helpful tips and strategies for scoring better on the ACT which is my son's goal. He has a style that puts one at ease and comfortable to learn new techniques and correct mistakes made in testing.

Thoroughly satisfied with our initial contacts and consultation with Alan. He has responded promptly to our phone calls and e-mails answering all questions. He is flexible with his availiability. He is able to confidently articulate a strategic plan to work with our daughter and her ACT prep. He sat down in consultation with us before initiating the initial assessment and provided instant feedback after meeting with our daughter for the first time. He seems to communicate and relate well with both parents and student. This seems like a good fit. We believe we've made an excellent choice.

Our daughter has now been working with Alan for 2 months. They meet twice weekly for 1 hour. I can not overstate the value of personal attention to improve learning. The following outlines the benefits we've noted at this stage: -Our child's motivation to learn has improved dramatically. She demonstrates a self-imposed discipline about completing homework on the days she is not working with Alan and eagerly prepares for his arrival on session dates. -Grades have improved from "C"s and "B"s on last report card to "A"s and "B"s on current progress report. Improvement is noted in ALL subjects. Her test scores have improved dramatically. We also note that she is actually learning, not just churning out a "C" by regurgitating information. -Our child is taking pride in her work!! She is no longer dragging through school work like it is a chore. Our goals were to help our child with reading comprehension and improving math skill. It's amazing to me how focusing on a couple of subject areas has provided benefit to her in all subjects. It has also made home life a lot easier - by investing a little in tutoring, the nightly stress/struggle of homework and disappointments with poor test results are fading from memory. We have more time to enjoy each other and have a little fun!
