Fluent German speaker who has studied and worked in Germany
I lived and taught English in Germany for five years just after the fall of the Wall. During that time I became fluent in German, and studied politics at the University of Duisburg and then the Freie Universitaet in Berlin. My friends were East German, and so spoke no English, which forced me to improve, fast. Between 2010 and 2015, I spent 2-4 months a year in Germany interviewing those who experienced World War II firsthand, in German. It was a fabulous test and strengthener of my region...
